Starting from July 24, Sony is going to initiate a beta test for an updated PlayStation 5 system software. This new version will allow users to connect their DualSense controllers wirelessly with multiple devices, as per the company’s recent announcement.
Moreover, the company disclosed details about an upcoming feature called “Power Saver Mode”. This function allows compatible PlayStation 5 games to operate using less energy, thereby minimizing their environmental footprint. It will be available at a future time.
Get the details below.
Pairing a DualSense Wireless Controller Across Multiple Devices
So far, every time you connect a DualSense or DualSense Edge wireless controller to a new device like a PC, Mac, or mobile phone, you had to perform the pairing process anew.
In this latest update, you’ll be able to register as many as four devices at once, and effortlessly transition between them using your controller. For instance, imagine picking up your controller typically used with your PlayStation 5, then instantly switching to a PC for some PC gaming, or connecting it to a smartphone to engage in Remote Play from your PlayStation 5. With this increased versatility, you’ll find yourself immersed in gaming across various devices more fluidly than ever before.
How to Pair Your Controller to Multiple Devices
To link a device to your preferred slot, simply press the PlayStation button together with either the triangle, circle, cross, or square button.
If a USB cable is connected to your controller, disconnect it before pairing.
- Make sure the light bar and player indicator on your controller is off. If they’re turned on, press and hold the PlayStation button until they turn off.
- Press and hold one of the action buttons (triangle, circle, cross, or square) and the PlayStation button for over 5 seconds. The light bar and player indicator flash two times.
- Turn on Bluetooth on your device, and select the option to add Bluetooth devices. Your device detects nearby Bluetooth devices.
- Select your controller from the detected devices. The light bar lights up, and the player indicator’s lights blink according to the slot number.
How to Switch Devices
After registering a device with your controller, you can easily switch between different devices by simultaneously pressing the PlayStation button and one of the action buttons (triangle, circle, cross, or square). This can be done whether your controller is powered on or off.
- Turn on the device you want to connect to.
- Press and hold one of the action buttons and the PlayStation button for about 3 seconds. When the light bar and player indicator blink, release both buttons. The light bar lights up, and the player indicator’s lights blink according to the slot number.
Slot number | Button used | Player indicator lights | Connected Device (Example)** |
---|---|---|---|
Slot 1 | PlayStation button and Triangle button | One light on | PlayStation 5 |
Slot 2 | PlayStation button and Circle button | Two lights on | PlayStation 5 Pro |
Slot 3 | PlayStation button and Cross button | Three lights on | Windows PC |
Slot 4 | PlayStation button and Square button | Four lights on | iPhone |

On the horizon: Power Saver for Games
At Sony Interactive Entertainment, we’re dedicated to following Sony’s “Road to Zero” environmental blueprint, initiated in 2010, aiming for a net-zero carbon footprint by 2040. We’re constantly seeking ways to support these objectives via our offerings and solutions.
In this latest version, you might spot a fresh setting titled Power Saver. Although it won’t be accessible during the beta period, upon its official release, compatible PlayStation 5 games can adjust their performance to save energy. This means your PlayStation 5 will consume less power when this feature is activated by users. However, if the feature isn’t enabled or if the game doesn’t support it, the performance won’t be affected and energy consumption will remain unchanged.
As we approach the launch, we’ll disclose further information about this novel feature, such as compatible PlayStation 5 games and a rough estimate of its effects. So, keep an eye out for updates!
We truly appreciate the valuable thoughts and recommendations shared by all our supporters. Starting from tomorrow, beta testers will start getting emails, so stay tuned!
*PlayStation 5 beta testing will be open to chosen individuals in the USA, Canada, Japan, UK, Germany, and France – the same countries as our previous system software betas.
Sony Corporation pledges to attain net-zero greenhouse gas emissions throughout its supply chain by fiscal year 2040 (based on a fiscal year 18 baseline), an objective certified by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). To learn more about our environmental footprint and Sony’s commitment to reach net-zero emissions by 2040, consult the Sony Sustainability Report 2024.
When Power Saver mode is enabled, VR functionality will be disabled. Additionally, some gameplay features may be restricted.
