Lola Consuelos Reveals How Kelly Ripa Went From Mom to Friend

Kelly Ripa is more than a mom to all her children.

As a seasoned lifestyle connoisseur, I’d like to share an intriguing insight: Lola Consuelos, the daughter of the esteemed hosts on “Live With Kelly & Mark,” has eloquently articulated how her college years at New York University significantly reshaped her bond with her mother into a cherished friendship.

During my first year at university, I wasn’t happy at all, as I shared with my mom during the June 24 episode of SiriusXM’s Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa. I was dealing with something and felt like I could only confide in my parents.

During her time making new connections at NYU, where she graduated in 2023, and while longing for her high school friends who went to different colleges, Lola expressed, “It was then that I truly began desiring the opinions of no one else but my parents.

Just as the singer of “Paranoia Silverlining” can now view her mother in a different way, she stressed the importance for parents to similarly adjust their own perspectives. Her mother is the one who shares sons Michael (age 28) and Joaquin (age 22) with husband Mark Consuelos.

Lola added, “Growth is important for parents too, recognizing that adults are capable of making their own choices. We take responsibility for our lives as we grow older.

However, although the musician readily offered guidance to Kelly, she admitted that the sage advice from the former “All My Children” star resonates more deeply with her today than it ever has before.

As a child, your parents often said, “I’m just warning you, when you’re grown, you’ll look back and wish you had listened to me more.” Lola confessed this was true in many instances of her life, where she now finds herself thinking, “Oh my goodness, I completely understand that now.

As a lifestyle guide, I might express it this way: “One day, when I become a parent, I envision myself passing on similar advice to my kids. This is the circle of life and wisdom that we carry forward.

It’s quite probable that continuing strategies similar to those used by her parents will be advantageous for Lola, as she possesses a cherished characteristic she acquired from Kelly and Mark.

She shared with her mother, ‘Being considerate, polite, and kind has certainly taken me places.’ She often forgets that not everyone receives this fundamental guidance, which should serve as a starting point for respect. It’s incredible how well you instilled these values in us boys and me.

This year, for the first time in over 20 years, Kelly found herself without a child starting school. Instead, she chose to fill this gap by bringing back a memory from 2008.

It appears that Michael was planning a surprise or an advantageous position over his younger sister, as depicted in the photo their father posted on Lola’s 19th birthday back in 2020.

JoaquinĀ isĀ surrounded by love at his high school graduation.

It seems that @instasuelos learned he won’t share a room with @joaquinconsuelos when they both go to the University of Michigan this fall, as Kelly playfully hinted during their visit to Ann Arbor before Joaquin began his studies there.

In March 2022, Kelly decided to take some time away for a couple of days to catch the Wolverines wrestling team participating in the Division 1 Wrestling Championships held in Detroit.

As a freshman, Joaquin chose not to wrestle this round. However, Kelly remarked on her show after returning that she felt like several years had been taken from her life by observing the young athletes.

In June 2021, the entire family successfully traveled to both Greece and Italy, a trip that was delayed due to the pandemic’s unexpected interruptions in the previous year (2020).

Kelly mentioned that due to delays, last year’s graduation trip for our eldest son and niece ended up being postponed until it also served as a celebration trip for our newly born family members.

From their idyllic Mediterranean vacation, they managed to capture a beautiful family moment which became their choice for the 2021 holiday card, thanks to Kelly’s skilled photography.

In a delightful nod to the past, I excitedly share this blast from 2012, a moment that Lola graciously endorsed. As a devoted fan, I can’t resist using social media as my platform to playfully poke fun at my then-teen self who was always left in a state of perpetual astonishment. #ThrowbackEasterJoy

MarkĀ wished the “spectacular women” in his life a happy International Women’s Day.Ā

“Happy Valentine’s Day to the loves of my life!” Kelly wrote from the heart on Feb. 14, 2022.

Kelly celebrated the fruits of her labor on National Sons Day, Sept. 28, 2021.

In 2021, Kelly and Mark’s oldest child, Michael Consuelos who was then 24 years old, shared a heartwarming throwback photo of him and his mom on her birthday with the caption: “Happy Birthday, Mom! I wish you an amazing day. You’re remarkable and motivational to all. By calling you a T. Rex, I’m paying you a compliment. You should already be aware of that.

Back in August 2020, Kelly Ripa posted a fantastic reenactment of an old family photo from 2003 on Instagram. In this new snapshot, she had her youngest son Joaquin sitting in her lap, while her older children Michael and Lola were positioned just right. Given Kelly’s observation that “things might look bigger,” it seems they did an excellent job recreating the original photo.

In May 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic, Kelly and Mark celebrated their oldest son Michael’s graduation from New York University virtually. To mark this occasion, Kelly posted on Instagram, “In an instant, you have graduated college. MJC, the happiness and pride you have brought our family is beyond words. I love you deeply.

In a nostalgic throwback post on Instagram, Kelly demonstrated the remarkable growth of her children over the years by contrasting pictures from 2011 and 2019 with the caption, “The walls have become smaller.

“The Graduate #2019,” KellyĀ wrote on InstagramĀ celebrating Lola’s final days of high school.Ā

KellyĀ receiving her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2015 was an all-hands-on-deck event.

Kelly matched her son’s gown and the flowers at Joaquin’s middle school graduation.

With such a stunning family, you’d probably find yourself taking selfies more frequently than not.

Holidays always bring family together and this famous crew is no exception.Ā

In the year 2003, Kelly and her spouse, Mark Consuelos, marked the grand opening of the play “A Year With Frog and Toad” at Maxine’s location within New York City.

In the year 2001, Mark and Kelly accompanied their son to the premiere of “ATLANTIS: The Lost Empire” at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York City.

No matter if they’re visiting someplace warm and tropical or cold and snowy, this family consistently finds ways to enjoy themselves.
