Game Freak, developers of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, recently shared more details about this upcoming main series game in the franchise. The reveal of Mega Dragonite during a recent Pokemon Presents was a standout moment, but there were many other intriguing tidbits about the game as well. Among these, we were introduced to a new character named Corbeau, who heads up a group called the Rust Syndicate. Based on what’s been shown so far, it appears that the Rust Syndicate might be the game’s antagonistic faction. However, fans have speculated that Corbeau could potentially have ties to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet as well.
On social media platforms, numerous Pokemon enthusiasts have observed similarities between the design of Corbeau and two main characters, Kieran and Carmine, featured in the DLC expansion of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Strikingly, Corbeau shares the same yellow eyes with these two rivals, and his hair color is remarkably like Kieran’s purple hue. Furthermore, they exhibit similar facial traits, particularly around the chin area. Whether this shared design is a mere coincidence or not is yet to be determined, but there’s speculation that Corbeau might be their father or an uncle. Check out the side-by-side comparison of the three characters in the tweet from @VidaDeTreinador embedded below.
In the Pokémon ZA universe, where I’m a dedicated fan, it’s believed that Corbeau is the father of both Kieran and Carmynha.

It’s interesting to point out that Game Freak has frequently created familial ties among the Pokémon games, and this is something we’ve observed quite a few times. For instance, the early example can be found in Pokémon Gold and Silver, where players were introduced to Koga’s daughter, Janine. This tradition was carried on in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet with Penny, who is revealed to be Peony’s daughter from Pokemon Sword and Shield. Although Scarlet and Violet don’t explicitly confirm this connection, Game Freak subtly hinted at it in the epilogue, leaving room for speculation that a similar approach might be taken with Corbeau in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, even if Kieran and Carmine themselves may not feature.
Independent of whether Corbeau is the father of the Scarlet and Violet siblings, it’s evident that this character has piqued the curiosity of Pokémon enthusiasts. There’s been a massive amount of fan art featuring Corbeau, suggesting a strong desire to learn about his intentions in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Despite the Rust Syndicate appearing sinister, as demonstrated by Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, things aren’t always as simple as good versus evil.
As a dedicated gamer, I’m excitedly counting down the days until October 16th, the release date for Pokemon Legends: Z-A. This thrilling adventure will unfold on both Nintendo Switch and the yet-to-be-revealed Nintendo Switch 2. With this beloved series, it’s always a given that there are plenty of mysteries to unravel as we journey through its world. As we inch closer to the release date, I can only hope for more tantalizing glimpses into the game’s enigmas.
