Highly Anticipated Strategy RPG Finally Sets Release Date (And It’s Soon)

Popular game series usually stay in the public eye by releasing new games every few years. Some rely on updated versions or re-releases to keep players interested while they develop a completely new game – a strategy the Elder Scrolls series often uses. But other franchises simply become less visible, leaving fans wondering about their future. That’s what happened with the Heroes of Might and Magic strategy RPG series, until very recently.

It’s been almost a decade since the last Heroes of Might and Magic game came out, but a new installment, Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era, was announced in 2024. Now, the developers at Unfrozen and Hooded Horse have confirmed the game will enter Early Access on April 30th. Here’s a rundown of what you can expect.

Heroes of Might and Magic Returns with Olden Era This Month

The Heroes of Might and Magic series is legendary, consistently ranked among the top strategy RPGs. However, the latest games weren’t as well-received, and that may be why we haven’t seen a new release in over a decade. The upcoming game looks promising, aiming to recapture the magic of the classic titles while avoiding the pitfalls of more recent installments. Marketed to both longtime fans and new players, the Olden Era demo, released in late 2025, has been well-received by the community.

The Early Access version of Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era is launching soon! After a short wait, players will be able to try the first new game in the series for over ten years, starting April 30th on Steam. Before we get into the details of this first version, take a look at the release trailer below to see the game in action.

If you’re excited about the trailer for Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era, good news – the game will be available in Early Access soon! This first version won’t be the complete game, but it will give fans – both longtime players and newcomers – a great look at the series’ return.

When it releases, Olden Era will let players choose from 6 different factions. A tutorial will help both new and experienced players learn the game’s turn-based strategy elements, and you’ll be able to play through the first part of the campaign. The game will also include several pre-designed scenarios, with more being added during Early Access. Olden Era is designed to be highly replayable thanks to its Random Map Generator, and you can even start creating your own maps with the included Map Editor before the full release.

The game will offer several ways to play, including Classic, Single Hero, and Arena modes, for both solo and multiplayer experiences. Competitive players can test their skills with matchmaking and ranked play during Early Access. If you’d rather play with friends and family locally, you can use Hotseat mode on one computer.

We’ll be adding more content to the game throughout Early Access, based on what players like you tell us. If you’re a fan of the Heroes of Might and Magic series and want to try the newest game first, you can add Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era to your Steam Wishlist to get notified when it launches on April 30th. You’ll also be able to play the Early Access version on Xbox PC through the Microsoft Store.
