Canceled Shonen Jump Series Returns With Live-Action Adaptation

Popular anime and manga series like Dragon Ball, One Piece, Jujutsu Kaisen, and My Hero Academia have been going strong for years, and some are still being updated with new content. While many manga published in Weekly Shonen Jump become hits, not all of them do. Surprisingly, a manga that was canceled is getting a second chance – it’s receiving an anime adaptation shortly after its final chapter was released. As a fun April Fool’s Day announcement, the series is also getting a unique live-action anime adaptation.

Okay, so this is amazing! To celebrate April Fool’s Day, the team behind Super Psychic Policeman Chojo – you know, that awesome but sadly canceled manga – totally tricked everyone with a fake live-action movie poster! They Photoshopped one of the characters’ masks onto an actor, and it’s hilarious. They even posted a ridiculously over-the-top announcement saying a live-action version, titled “Super Speed! Super Joe Senpai: Super Joe Speed Vs Super Joe Speed,” was coming to theaters on 2.13.20026 – seriously! They’re playing it up like it’s invading the anime world with a full roadshow. It’s such a fun April Fool’s joke, and I had to share the poster with everyone!

Big news! A live-action movie of ‘Chojo Senior’ is coming to theaters! Get ready for ‘Chojo vs. Chojo’ – a wild ride where the live-action Chojo crashes into the animated world! It hits theaters everywhere on February 13, 2026.

And don’t miss the simultaneous release of ‘Pon-chan vs. Aliens’! Stay tuned! #ChojoSenior #ChojoAnime #AprilFools

The Psychic Policeman Will Return

Super Psychic Policeman Chojo ended last year in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump, running for around one year before coming to a close. If you never had the chance to check out this series, here’s how Shueisha describes the manga: “On her first day at the West Chinjuku Police Station, Ippongi realizes she got the short end of the stick: Her new partner, Chojo, uses his psychic powers to do everything except work. But after some yakuza threaten to take over Ippongi’s family’s dojo, Chojo begins to take his job more seriously, and the pair embark on a comedic whirlwind solving crimes, catching bad guys, and blundering their way through life as police officers.”

The new anime adaptation is scheduled to premiere this October and will be produced by Studio Arvo Animation, known for previous works like Monster Girl Doctor, We Never Learn: Bokuben, and A Returner’s Magic Should Be Special. It’s rare for a canceled manga to get a new life as an anime, so hopefully this one will be successful and inspire more revivals!

I’ve noticed a real surge in live-action anime adaptations lately, and it doesn’t seem to be stopping. While that funny fan-made trailer for a certain series might just be a joke, big names are definitely getting the live-action treatment. Netflix is already planning a third season of One Piece, and it sounds like Naruto, My Hero Academia, and Mobile Suit Gundam are all in the works too. There’s still no official word on whether that detective with psychic powers will get a live-action version, but it’s definitely something people are hoping for.
