
Take-Two Interactive, the company behind Rockstar Games, has reduced its workforce in the artificial intelligence research and development department.
Luke Dicken, the company’s head of AI, has been laid off, and several other employees in the AI division have also lost their jobs. The exact number of those affected hasn’t been revealed.
So, Dicken just posted on LinkedIn about some layoffs at our company. He’s really going above and beyond, though – he’s using his post to help our team find new opportunities at other companies. It’s awesome to see him looking out for us like that.

This announcement follows statements from Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick about generative AI. He thinks the technology can help create games, but won’t replace game developers entirely.
He dismissed the notion that the technology could easily create blockbuster games like GTA 6, calling it unrealistic.
The publisher appears to be putting resources into artificial intelligence and exploring how it can improve the work processes at its various studios.
According to Kotaku, Strauss Zelnick, the head of the publisher, has stated they are actively exploring and using generative AI.
We’ve been testing new technologies with many teams throughout the company, including our studios, and we’re finding ways to work more efficiently and lower costs. This will allow our creative teams to focus on the most important part of their jobs – making great entertainment – by automating more routine tasks.
This aligns with his previous statements: he sees potential for this technology to help game developers. While it won’t automatically create games, it could improve the overall game development process.
