This summer’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day could be the biggest Spider-Man movie yet, largely because of its large number of villains – four of whom are making their live-action debut. While this is the third series of live-action Spider-Man films, and past versions have shared characters, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is taking a fresh approach to the villains, introducing antagonists unfamiliar to many viewers in Brand New Day.
The first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been released, giving fans their first glimpse of the upcoming movie. The trailer reveals the film will center around Peter Parker and a surprising change to his DNA. He’s also still grappling with the consequences of Doctor Strange’s spell from No Way Home, all while facing a new group of villains. Though these villains aren’t necessarily Spider-Man’s most famous foes, that’s part of what makes this movie so promising.
Scorpion, Tombstone, Tarantula, & Boomerang Have Never Appeared In A Live-Action Spider-Man Movie Before

The upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day will feature many villains, but we still don’t know who the primary antagonist will be. Recently, it was revealed that Michael Mando will reprise his role as Mac Gargan, continuing the story from the post-credits scene in Spider-Man: Homecoming. This time, he’ll fully transform into the Scorpion, marking the first time this iconic villain appears in his complete form in a live-action Spider-Man film.
Adding to the excitement, the movie will mark the first live-action appearance of Tombstone, played by Marvin Jones III. The trailer also showed Peter Parker battling Tarantula and Boomerang in what’s being called Brand New Day, bringing the total number of villains making their live-action debut to four. Although characters like Tombstone and Scorpion have been featured in other Spider-Man series, this is the first time they’ll appear in a live-action movie, making this film particularly special.
Plus, we might see some new villains come to life in live-action. The identity of Sadie Sink’s character is still a secret – she could be a hero like Jean Grey, but there are many villainous roles she could also play. And the Hand, a shadowy organization, will be featured in Brand New Day. Though they’ve appeared in the Daredevil series before, this could be our first look at many of the lesser-known villains connected to them.
The MCU’s Use Of Spider-Man’s Rogue’s Gallery Has Been Incredible So Far

Even though this is the third set of Spider-Man movies, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has done a great job of introducing new and interesting villains. This is a major strength of how they’ve handled Spider-Man, because it could have easily become repetitive. So far, the MCU hasn’t reused any villains from the previous Spider-Man films directed by Sam Raimi or The Amazing Spider-Man series. Characters like Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Venom, Sandman, Harry Osborn, the Lizard, and Electro haven’t shown up yet, and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man movies have instead focused on different foes.
The main exception is Spider-Man: No Way Home, which brought in villain versions of Spider-Man from past movie series instead of reimagining those villains for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The MCU’s Spider-Man films have instead focused on villains like Vulture, Shocker, and Mysterio, and now the characters planned for Brand New Day.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is bringing a lot of lesser-known Spider-Man villains to the big screen, which is really exciting for fans. Many have been eager to see these characters come to life in live-action, and they’ll finally get their wish with the upcoming movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
