The entertainment industry is facing tough times after a surge of new projects were announced during the pandemic. Now, we’re seeing frequent news about job losses and studios shutting down, painting a discouraging picture. Rob Carr, a former audio engineer at Rockstar, shares this pessimistic outlook.
In a recent interview with Kiwi Talkz on YouTube, voice actor Roger Clark (known for his work in games like GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption 1 & 2, and L.A. Noire) discussed the difficulties he’s facing finding his next big project. Despite his impressive resume, he believes it’s surprisingly challenging to secure a new role.
I have twenty years of experience in the industry and have contributed to some major projects. However, there are many other professionals with similar backgrounds and experience levels. With so much competition, my twenty years of experience doesn’t seem to give me an edge in the job market like it used to just five years ago.
Carr’s comments highlight the current difficulties facing many game development studios. The industry has been unstable recently, with numerous companies, including Polyarc, Eidos Montreal, and Epic Games, announcing layoffs or facing financial trouble.
We’re optimistic that things will get better for Carr and all the other talented people who have created so many of the gaming experiences we love.
