Elden Ring is now considered a landmark game, celebrated for its incredibly detailed open world and intricate storytelling. The game encourages players to interpret the lore for themselves, and even after extensive exploration, dedicated fans continue to discover hidden secrets and details that amaze the community.
Dataminer Lance McDonald recently discovered a cutscene that shows Miquella planting the Haligtree seed at Elphael. As a reminder, Miquella hoped the Haligtree would cure his sister, Malenia, of her Scarlet Rot. While Malenia initially survived the disease, she eventually unleashed it on Caelid during her fight with Radahn. She then returned to the Haligtree’s roots, where she waited for Miquella, not knowing he had been kidnapped by Mohg, who was pursuing his own claim to the Elden Throne.
This shows a previously unseen map file from Elden Ring that contains a cutscene of Miquella planting the Haligtree. The file also reveals how the developers originally planned to play this cutscene during the game’s early stages of development and testing.
Miquella appears to have good intentions, but his approach in Shadow of the Erdtree ultimately proved flawed. It’s heartwarming to remember a time before The Shattering when Miquella and his twin worked to improve things for themselves and others. Plus, it’s fascinating to see the beginnings of the tree that played such a memorable role in one of our favorite boss fights.
Elden Ring can be played on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. A version called the Tarnished Edition is also planned for the upcoming Switch 2 console, expected to release later this year.
