The long-awaited animated series, Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, has arrived! The show focuses on the popular character Maul, diving deeper into his story after we’ve seen him in several movies and TV shows. Like all things Star Wars, it also introduces new characters, including more individuals who survived the devastating Order 66. In Shadow Lord, Maul takes a young Twi’lek named Devon Izara under his guidance as he attempts to rebuild his criminal organization. Devon previously trained as a Jedi under the Jedi Master Eeko-Dio Daki, who belongs to a completely new species within the Star Wars universe.
After the release of Maul – Shadow Lord, the official Star Wars website published an article with interesting facts about its production. One detail revealed that Eeko-Dio Daki was nicknamed “Dino Jedi” while the show was being made, before his species was officially named the Mosyk. You can see the concept art for him below.

What Is Eeko-Dio Daki’s Role On Maul – Shadow Lord?
With only two episodes of Maul – Shadow Lord released so far, the story is still developing. However, we’re starting to get a sense of Eeko-Dio Daki’s role. As Season 1 progresses, we’ll likely see more of the relationship between him and Devon Izara. Even though they’re hiding on the planet Janix, Eeko-Dio is still teaching Devon, trying to instill good values in her. Their first scene together shows a key difference: Eeko-Dio can’t stop Devon from stealing, highlighting her impulsive nature, while he prefers a more patient approach.
Eeko-Dio remains a true Jedi, offering Devon guidance that contrasts with the manipulative influence of Maul. A recent trailer for Maul – Shadow Lord reveals Devon hopes Maul might be an ally in fighting the Empire. While Eeko-Dio acknowledges they share a common enemy with Maul, he warns against trusting him. Throughout the season, Devon will likely struggle to decide which mentor to follow. Eeko-Dio will undoubtedly try to guide her towards the Jedi path, but Maul’s power and promises may be very tempting.
It will be fascinating to watch whether Eeko-Dio tries to connect with Brander Lawson, the detective investigating Maul. They meet a few times, but never properly introduce themselves. Eeko-Dio is seen following Lawson after a meeting with Rheena Sul, suggesting he’s watching the detective to gauge his trustworthiness. Having survived Order 66, Eeko-Dio is understandably careful, as he doesn’t want to end up in the Empire’s hands. If he decides Lawson is an ally, Eeko-Dio might approach him for help with Devon.
As the first season unfolds, it’ll be interesting to see how much we learn about Eeko-Dio and Devon’s past. Right now, we only know they survived Order 66. When Rook Kast questions how Devon lived through the Jedi Purge, Maul shows curiosity as well. While we don’t need a full flashback of them battling clone troopers, a scene showing their survival could reveal important details about Devon’s character and explain her willingness to team up with Maul in Shadow Lord.
