Who says Selena Gomezcan’t do it all?
Selena is adding another impressive role to her already diverse career – she’s now a director, on top of being an actress, singer, and successful businesswoman.
Selena Gomez, the 33-year-old actress known from the Disney Channel, is set to direct the first episode of the third season of the Wizards Beyond Waverly Place series.
Selena Gomez announced on Instagram on April 6th that she’s now a member of the Directors Guild of America! She celebrated by posting a picture of a script with her name on it as the director.
This career achievement is both happy and a little sad for Selena, as it reminds her of how she first became famous. She started out playing the magical teenager Alex Russo on the original Wizards of Waverly Place, which aired for four seasons between 2007 and 2012.
She came back for the show’s 2024 reboot, reuniting with her on-screen brother, David Henrie, who plays Justin Russo.
The Disney Channel show Wizards Beyond Waverly Place will conclude after its third season. In the season two finale, it was revealed that Alex is the mother of Billie Russo, played by Janice LeAnn Brown. Alex made a selfless sacrifice, saving Billie from her dangerous grandfather.
According to Variety, the storyline for season three centers on Billie’s quest to save her mother. She must team up with her estranged father, and as the family searches for him, Billie discovers that their combined strength is the key to overcoming the darkness affecting the Russos.
Selena expressed her gratitude on Instagram on April 6th for being able to contribute to how the Russo family’s story ended on the show, even though it’s still uncertain what will happen to her character, Alex.

Before the show returned in 2024, Selena shared how much the original series meant to her and how it positively impacted her life.
She told People magazine that this experience was the foundation of everything she’s achieved, and she’ll always remember it as her starting point.
Now that Selena is reaching a new high point in her career, let’s revisit some of her most memorable achievements.
