A key role is becoming available in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Nick Fury’s story seems to be concluding. He hasn’t appeared in any Marvel projects since the Secret Invasion series and The Marvels movie. With SHIELD dismantled and the MCU heading towards stories about mutants and cosmic adventures, there’s a potential need for someone to take over Fury’s strategic and combat leadership. However, to make this transition work, the timing within the MCU would need significant adjustment.
As a huge MCU fan, I was really impressed with the animated series Eyes of Wakanda. They introduced this incredible character, Noni, and her journey was just fantastic – she starts off as someone on the outside looking in, and ends up leading the War Dogs as a general! Honestly, she feels like the perfect successor to Nick Fury, and I’m excited to see where they take her next.
How Could Noni Become the Next Nick Fury in the MCU?

Bringing Noni into the Marvel Cinematic Universe presents a challenge because her story takes place so far in the past. Trained by the Dora Milaje around 1260 BC, she was exiled for disobeying their orders. She was then tasked with tracking down a man who had stolen Vibranium and Wakandan treasures. After successfully hunting him down and retrieving the stolen items, she received a significant reward.
Noni was a member of the War Dogs, and through her dedication, she became their Director. She fought alongside a warrior named B’kai before passing away, leaving a lasting impact on Wakanda. Because she died over 3,000 years ago, it’s impossible to see her in current Marvel Cinematic Universe stories. However, there’s another aspect to consider.
Noni was a compelling character who had the potential to be a major force in the Marvel Cinematic Universe if she were appearing in current storylines. With the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars expected to reboot the MCU – potentially merging different realities, as seen in the comics – and rumors that Black Panther 3 will feature Wakanda battling aliens, there’s speculation about how Noni could fit into the future. If the Wakandans are facing an intergalactic empire, time travel might be involved, opening the door for Noni to appear as a new director within the MCU.
How Will Wakanda Look After Avengers: Secret Wars?

Fans are curious about how the Marvel Cinematic Universe will adapt the Avengers: Secret Wars story. If the events known as Incursions destroy Earth, and Doctor Doom rebuilds it as Battleworld – just like in the comics – we could see a lot of familiar and new faces appear. This might even include characters from previous stories, like Noni. Early signs suggest that Wakanda could face destruction in Avengers: Doomsday, possibly because the land shown in trailers seems to be the End of Time. This could lead to Shuri, M’Baku, and other Wakandans teaming up with Nomi and characters from Eyes of Wakanda.
As the Marvel Cinematic Universe expands with the introduction of the X-Men and a renewed focus on cosmic storylines – potentially through Black Panther 3 and a Nova project – a strong leader like Nomi would be a valuable asset. Black Panther 3 is expected to introduce a new T’Challa, possibly his son, and with Shuri still involved, Wakanda is poised to become a major player in the MCU alongside the X-Men. Nomi would be perfectly positioned to guide this new, young king as a key advisor.
Right now, it’s all speculation since we don’t know the full impact of the upcoming Secret Wars event. It’s unclear how much the Marvel Cinematic Universe will change and what things will look like in the movies and Disney+ shows afterward. Black Panther 3 is expected to be one of the first films released after Secret Wars, suggesting Wakanda will be central to the MCU’s future, particularly with Denzel Washington joining the cast. The X-Men will likely interact with Wakanda as well, with the introduction of the Savage Land, which connects both franchises. As Nick Fury’s time in the MCU seems to be coming to an end, his successor might come from Wakanda.
