A new Mario Tennis game, the first in eight years, launched as one of the early exclusives for the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. While Switch 2 owners were thrilled, it meant fans without the new console couldn’t play. Fortunately, a recently announced tennis game with a great lineup of players is now coming to the Switch, offering another option for tennis enthusiasts.
Gameloft revealed that Nickelodeon Extreme Tennis Next! is coming to Nintendo Switch on April 7th. This is a console version of Nickelodeon Extreme Tennis, a popular mobile game originally released on Apple Arcade in 2022. The updated sequel will be available on consoles for the first time on May 28th, featuring well-known Nickelodeon characters battling it out on the tennis court in various game modes.
Nickelodeon Extreme Tennis: Next! Swings Onto Nintendo Switch in May 2026

Originally released on Apple Arcade in January 2022, Nickelodeon Extreme Tennis was a sequel to the 2015 mobile game, Nickelodeon All-Stars Tennis. However, support for Extreme Tennis ended after less than a year, and because it was only available on Apple Arcade, it didn’t become as popular as other arcade games featuring classic Nickelodeon characters. Now, fans can play it on a new Nintendo Switch version.
If you’re craving a Mario Tennislike experience and don’t have a Switch 2 yet, this new game might be just what you need. It features 15 popular characters from shows like SpongeBob SquarePants, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles*. Early screenshots on the Nintendo website show off characters like Aang, Garfield, SpongeBob, Patrick, and Angelica Pickles. You’ll be able to customize how your favorite Nickelodeon characters look with different outfits and accessories before playing. Though based on the original game, it looks like this version will include extra modes and gameplay features.
Nickelodeon Extreme Tennis: Next! lets up to two players enjoy local tennis matches. It also features a Story Mode for solo players, a Tournament Mode for competition, and a variety of fun mini-games. The game boasts a bright and colorful world with a unique 2D/3D art style. If you’re a fan of Nickelodeon and enjoy tennis games, this could be a fun game to add to your Nintendo Switch collection.
Nickelodeon Extreme Tennis: Next! will be available digitally for the original Nintendo Switch on May 28th. The game isn’t available for purchase on the eShop yet, so it’s currently unknown if it will perform well on the new Switch 2 console.
