The Housemaid author Frieda McFadden has stepped out of the shadows.
After achieving great success with her thriller novel and the recent film adaptation, McFadden has shared that she is also a doctor specializing in brain health. Her 2022 novel quickly became a bestseller, and the movie version, starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, was a hit in theaters in 2025. The film, titled The Housemaid, proved to be a major success at the box office.
USA Today recently reported that Freida McFadden, author of The Housemaid, is actually Sara Cohen, a doctor specializing in brain disorders. Cohen deliberately kept her identity hidden to avoid any conflict between her writing and medical career. While she stopped working full-time as a doctor at the end of 2023, she still treats a few patients.
