Every parent eventually reaches a point where they need to let their children become independent and explore the world. This is a challenge Joanna Scanlan’s character, Sarah, faces in the new thriller, Missed Call.
Next week, a new series will premiere, but TopMob has a special early preview. The five-episode show is a beautiful getaway set in sunny Southern France.
However, as evidenced by the clip in question, not everything may be quite what it seems.
The video shows Sarah, a mother in England, eating breakfast alone. Meanwhile, her daughter Katie has arrived in France to participate in a student exchange program, staying with a French student’s family.
The beautiful scenery is a complete contrast to Sarah’s everyday life, and Katie is video calling her mother to share the experience and let her see how amazing it is.

Katie introduces her mother to the Morvan family, with whom she’s staying. Over breakfast, everything seems lovely as Caroline takes the initiative and starts talking to Sarah. She then meets Emma, who doesn’t seem very engaged, and Fabien, who enthusiastically asks about the weather in England.
Sarah mentions to her family that Katie is a fussy eater, but Fabien dismisses it, confidently predicting Katie will soon enjoy French cuisine. However, after the call ends, Sarah seems a little worried.
Is she worrying too much about her daughter’s trip abroad? Or is her intuition telling her something isn’t right?
Things take a dark turn when Sarah starts investigating after her teenage daughter, Katie, goes missing during a school exchange in France. The story, “Missed Call,” begins with Sarah receiving a late-night missed call from Katie and quickly escalates as she arrives in France to find the host family and police surprisingly unconcerned. Determined to find her daughter, Sarah’s search becomes a thrilling and perilous race against time.
I’ve always been a fan of Scanlan, and I’m so excited to see him taking the lead in this new 5-part thriller! The cast is incredible too – alongside him are Claire Keim, who I loved in ‘Vise le Coeur,’ Rupert Graves from ‘Sherlock,’ François-Xavier Demaison of ‘Disparue,’ and the fantastic Robert Lindsay, known for ‘Sherwood.’ It’s a lineup you really can’t miss!
