A classic Nintendo Game Boy game is making a comeback next week, 35 years after it first launched in 1991. That was a big year for gaming, with releases from companies like Capcom, Square, and Nintendo! This new version will be available on April 14th for most modern platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4 & 5, and Xbox One & Series X. While there’s no version specifically for the unreleased Nintendo Switch 2, it will likely work on the new console thanks to backward compatibility.
I’m really excited about this! It’s Parasol Stars, originally known as Bubble Bobble III, and it’s coming to more platforms! I remember when it first came out, it was mostly a Game Boy game since not many people had a TurboGrafx-16. It actually got re-released a couple of years ago, which is why we’re not getting a version for a potential new console. But now, it’s getting another release in 2026! They’re bundling it with a brand new game called Spica Adventure – which is making its western and console debut on April 14th – and calling the whole package Parasol Superstars. It’s great news for fans like me!
The Parasol Superstars bundle includes both 2D platformer games for $19.99. For the first week after release, it will be discounted by 20%, bringing the price down to $16. This is a great deal considering that Spica Adventure alone will normally cost $20. Basically, if you’re interested in Spica Adventure, the bundle is a better value since you’ll get another game for free!
ININ Games is publishing this new version, but they weren’t involved with the original Parasol Stars: The Story of Bubble Bobble III. Thankfully, the original creators, Taito, are developing this re-release, and they’re also working on the next game, Spica Adventure.
