Khloe Kardashian didn’t initially want cameras keeping up with her life.
Actually, both she and Kourtney Kardashian Barker didn’t want to do Keeping Up With The Kardashians when it was first proposed in the early 2000s. However, their mother, Kris Jenner, cleverly convinced them to participate.
Khloe recently shared on the Morgan Stewart Show podcast that she never had a strong desire for fame. She and her sister, Kourtney, initially refused when their mom and Kim Kardashian first suggested they do the reality show.
Khloe and Kourtney were busy with their new fashion boutique, Dash, in Calabasas, and were prioritizing its success. Their mother, Kris, though, had a different perspective on what was happening.
Khloe remembered her mom convincing them to help by framing it as a way to promote the store. That’s all they really cared about at the time.
It was just Kourt and me running the businesses at the beginning,” she explained. “We had two stores – one for kids and one for women – and we each managed one. We handled absolutely everything ourselves – cleaning, taxes, even steaming clothes. We didn’t hire anyone, and honestly, we were completely clueless about what we were doing.”
That’s one reason why starting a TV series felt overwhelming at first. However, once Kris convinced her daughters to participate, everything fell into place and the project quickly became a success.

Keeping Up With The Kardashians, a reality show that first aired on E! in October 2007, documented the everyday lives of the Kardashian-Jenner family for 20 seasons. The show also spawned several spin-offs, including Kourtney and Kim Take Miami, Kourtney and Khloé Take The Hamptons, Dash Dolls, and Life of Kylie.
The original show finished in 2021, but the Kardashians quickly returned to television with their new series on Hulu, The Kardashians. The seventh season just finished airing.
Even though Kris had a feeling early on that things could take off, she still finds it hard to believe just how successful her family’s reality TV shows, Keeping Up With The Kardashians and The Kardashians, have become. She’s also an executive producer on both shows.
She told Vanity Fair at their Oscars party in March that they are currently filming the 28th season, counting all seasons together. She considers the very first season the best, and believes the season they’re filming now is equally good, adding that everything in between has been a bonus.

The 70-year-old shared, “I’ve got amazing home movies! We started the project not knowing what would happen, but they renewed us for a second season before we even finished filming the first. We were really lucky, and we had a great time making it.”
The momager also made it clear that a spinoff focused on her life is definitely not in the cards.
She said she’s happy with her current work and enjoys being on the show, but she’s going to let the younger members of the team take the lead for a while.
