Tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs) are often associated with fantasy, largely due to the popularity of Dungeons & Dragons. But there’s a huge variety of other genres available, including modern horror games like Delta Green and superhero RPGs such as the Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game. Science fiction is also well-represented, with Starfinder being a popular sci-fi spin-off of the Pathfinder RPG. Starfinder recently released an updated version of its rules (Second Edition), and now a new adventure book is available to accompany it.
Starfinder is a science fiction role-playing game created by Paizo, the same company behind Pathfinder. It’s set in a futuristic version of the Pathfinder universe. While Pathfinder released its updated rules in 2019, Starfinder just recently updated its ruleset in 2025, followed by a new adventure. Paizo has now revealed more details about its next adventure book for Starfinder 2e, and the approach will likely seem familiar to those who have followed the recent changes to Dungeons & Dragons.
Starfinder 2e’s Next New Book Is an Adventure Anthology

Currently, there’s only one official adventure book available for Starfinder‘s 2nd edition rules: Guilt of the Grave World, a large-scale campaign for characters levels 1 through 5. While fans appreciate it as a strong starting point for the 2e system, they’re eager for more content. Fortunately, Paizo has announced two new adventures coming in 2026. The first, Tales from the Vast, is scheduled for release on May 6th, and Paizo recently shared details about it during a livestream.
Fans have known for some time that the next Starfinder 2nd Edition book would be called Tales from the Vast. The title appeared in the Starfinder adventure subscription, sparking speculation about its content. During the May Paizo Live stream, Managing Creative Director Jenny Jarzabski and Associate Director of Marketing & Media Rue Dickey revealed more details about this upcoming adventure. Similar to many of the sourcebooks planned for D&D in 2025, Tales from the Vast will be a collection of self-contained episodes, allowing players to easily jump in and out of different stories.
As the title suggests, Tales from the Vast will be set, at least in part, within the game’s “The Vast” region – the immense emptiness of outer space. This makes it an ideal backdrop for a collection of exciting and diverse Starfinder adventures. The book will contain four separate, shorter adventures, each with a different feel, ranging from classic space exploration to chilling horror. Players can also look forward to discovering new ancestries and creatures within its pages.

Collections of adventures like this one are perfect for people interested in trying tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs) such as Starfinder, but aren’t ready for a long-term campaign. These shorter, self-contained adventures are a good way to learn a new game system, or to overcome the challenges of finding a regular time to play with the same group.
Recently, Dungeons & Dragons has released many adventure collections, and it’s great to see other tabletop RPGs like Starfinder adopting this flexible format. However, fans of longer, connected campaigns don’t need to worry! The next traditional Starfinder adventure path, Secrets of the Swarm, is coming in September. It continues the story from the first adventure and is designed for characters levels 6-10. You can find Tales from the Vast and all other Starfinder 2nd Edition sourcebooks on the Paizo website.
