After a two-year pause, X-Men ’97 is getting ready to launch its second season, and the first trailer has excited fans. The show is a continuation of the beloved 1990s cartoon, X-Men: The Animated Series, bringing back the original characters and many of the voice actors. The first season of X-Men ’97 was a big success and marked Marvel Studios’ first official project featuring the X-Men since acquiring the rights from Fox. Fans are now eagerly awaiting the new season, which is scheduled to arrive this Summer.
A major event in the first season of X-Men ’97 was the threat of an asteroid hitting Earth. The X-Men bravely went into space to try and stop it, but the asteroid exploded, and they appeared to be destroyed. However, the X-Men weren’t actually killed—they were instead flung throughout different time periods. Getting them all back to the 1990s will be a key focus of the show’s second season.
During Marvel Television’s presentation at New York Comic-Con in October 2025, the first trailer for X-Men ’97 was shown to fans. The team at TopMob, who were present at the event, spotted some key details in the trailer that suggest the upcoming season of X-Men will be full of exciting stories.
4 Major Moments From the X-Men ’97 Season 2 Trailer
X-Factor

A quick glimpse in the trailer appears to show the X-Factor team. This mutant group has often been portrayed as working with the government. The original team consisted of Angel, Beast, Cyclops, Marvel Girl, and Iceman. However, the silhouette suggests the lineup in X-Men ’97 might be different, with some new or changed members.
As a huge fan of X-Men ’97, the way they’re playing with time travel has me thinking – I wouldn’t be surprised if X-Factor shows up as a team that forms in a possible future. Maybe they’re what the X-Men become, or a team that rises to take their place if something happens to the originals.
New X-Men Suits

Viewers loved seeing the classic X-Men costumes return in X-Men ’97, but the latest trailer shows Cyclops and Jean in new outfits. They’re wearing unique yellow and black uniforms with prominent “X” logos on the sleeves. These outfits strongly resemble those from New X-Men, hinting that Season 2 might explore similar storylines.
In 2001, Grant Morrison reimagined the X-Men in a comic book series called New X-Men, giving the characters updated costumes with prominent yellow ‘X’s. The latest trailer suggests that the X-Men ’97 animated series might draw more inspiration from this era, building on the Genosha storyline that was already featured in Season 1.
I’m really excited about the new X-Men series! It looks like they’re setting up some great storylines for the mutants. Seeing Quentin Quire, or Kid Omega, in the Season 2 trailer got me thinking – I have a feeling they might adapt the classic “Riot at Xavier’s” comic arc, which is where that character first showed up. It would be amazing if they did!
New Allies

The trailer for X-Men 97 Season 2 shows Morph, Wolverine, Sabertooth, and Lady Deathstrike together, hinting that the X-Men might gain some unexpected allies next season. The scene doesn’t reveal why they’re meeting, but features a funny exchange about old technology – Morph is looking at DVDs while Lady Deathstrike insists she prefers laserdiscs.
At the end of Season 1, it’s uncertain what will happen to Morph and Wolverine. Wolverine was seriously hurt by Magneto, who also removed the adamantium from his bones, and Morph stayed with him. While the rest of the X-Men were shown scattered throughout different time periods, Morph and Wolverine weren’t included, leaving their current location in time—whether the present, past, or future—a mystery.
No matter where their journey takes them, it looks like the group will encounter former foes, Sabretooth and Lady Deathstrike. These two might actually want to help bring the X-Men back together with their old teammates.
Phoenix’s Return

A brief moment in the Season 2 trailer suggests the Phoenix will return in X-Men ’97. The trailer shows the Phoenix symbol reflected in Magneto’s eyes, implying that Jean Grey might transform into the powerful Phoenix again in the animated series.
Throughout the history of the X-Men, the Phoenix Force has shown up in Jean Grey in various ways. However, it usually acts as a powerful, overwhelming force that takes control of her, rather than simply empowering her.
In Episode 10 of X-Men ’97 Season 1, Jean transformed into the Phoenix to help defeat Mr. Sinister. Afterwards, she stated that the Phoenix Force was gone, leaving her future powers uncertain. However, a recent trailer for X-Men ’97 suggests the Phoenix may return soon.
