‘Daemons of the Shadow Realm’ is Crunchyroll’s New ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ Replacement on Streaming

However, another series is quickly gaining popularity on Crunchyroll, and could challenge Jujutsu Kaisen for the top spot.

Crunchyroll’s weekly top ten list continues to be led by Jujutsu Kaisen, now that the first part of its third season has finished. The second part is anticipated later this year, though a release date hasn’t been officially announced. Rising quickly in popularity and currently at number two is the new anime Daemons of the Shadow Realm. Animated by Studio Bones, the team behind Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Daemons of the Shadow Realm has the potential to be one of the biggest surprises of 2026.

Inspired by the manga of Hiromu Arakawa (creator of Fullmetal Alchemist and Silver Spoon), Daemons of the Shadow Realm tells the story of twin brothers, Yuru and Asa. They possess a hidden power to control Daemons, but were separated at birth without knowing about it. Now, they must find each other and work together to stop a catastrophic event. While the show shares similarities with Jujutsu Kaisen – like its use of dark magic, exciting action sequences, and world-saving plot – it’s a unique dark fantasy anime in its own right.

‘Daemons of the Shadow Realm’ Is Already a Fan Favorite

The involvement of Hiromi Arakawa immediately suggests a high-quality series. She’s a very well-respected manga artist, and her work Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is often considered one of the greatest anime of all time. While this new anime hasn’t yet received widespread attention, it’s debuting during a particularly crowded season. Several popular shows, including new seasons of Re: Zero, Classroom of the Elite, Dr. Stone, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, and Rent-a-Girlfriend, are also being released this season, along with Witch Hat Atelier.
