Think you’ve seen every shark movie out there? Think again! While Jaws remains the classic that launched the genre, films like The Meg and Sharknado have offered their own twists. Now, a new shark thriller is making waves on Netflix, quickly becoming the most-watched movie with millions of views.
Okay, so I just saw Thrash, and let me tell you, it’s…a lot. It’s an action thriller, and when I say there are sharks, I mean there are sharks. Surprisingly, the movie isn’t lacking in star power either – Djimon Hounsou and Phoebe Dynevor are both in it! The story drops you right into this little coastal town getting absolutely hammered by a massive storm. When things couldn’t get any worse, sharks start showing up everywhere – the flooding literally washes them into town. It’s basically a fight for survival as the townspeople have to band together. It’s definitely a wild ride!
Thrash is All Over the Place, But It’s a Bloody Good Time
Reviewers generally disliked the thriller, describing it as overly dramatic and disjointed, and feeling it lacked a clear focus. Peter Travers noted it felt hastily released on Netflix instead of in cinemas, calling it a weak imitation of Jaws and expressing sympathy for the lead actress, Phoebe Dynevor. However, some viewers found its straightforward nature charming, appreciating it as a simple, suspenseful shark thriller that didn’t try to be anything more.
Viewers are split on the new shark film, with some agreeing with critics and others praising it. Many are impressed with the surprisingly good special effects and the solid acting. One viewer described it as a fun, lighthearted movie – perfect with a waffle! – and gave it a 7 out of 10, comparing it to another shark thriller, Crawl. While undeniably silly, Thrash doesn’t try to be anything more than a simple, entertaining thriller. It jumps between genres a bit, but it’s never dull, offering plenty of violence, good acting, and just the right amount of humor. Ultimately, it delivers exactly what you’d expect from a shark movie.
