Considered one of the greatest manga ever made, Goodnight Punpun ran from 2007 to 2013 in Big Comic Spirits magazine. It’s known for its realistic and moving depiction of trauma and mental health, making it a truly thought-provoking series. The artwork is detailed and distinctive, helping Goodnight Punpun stand out. While creator Inio Asano has worked on other stories – including the award-winning short manga Solanin which came before it – Goodnight Punpun remains his most popular and successful work.
In addition to his popular work, Asano is famous for stories like A Girl on the Shore, Dead Dead Demons Dededede Destruction, and Nijigahara Holograph, solidifying his place as one of the most highly regarded manga artists ever. His fans eagerly anticipate each new project, whether it’s a long-running series or a short story. He recently announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he’ll be starting a new serialized manga this year, and has asked fans to watch for further details.
Mujina into the Deep Will Return Next Year With Part 2

Asano’s manga, Mujina into the Deep, has been running in Big Comics Superior magazine since 2023. After finishing the first part on April 10th, Asano announced that while this is a temporary break, the story will continue at a later date.
He announced he’s taking a break for a short time, but is aiming to return next year and thanked everyone for their ongoing support. He also shared that the latest edition, volume 6, will be available at the end of May!
He also explained the long pause in updates, saying simply that he was physically and creatively exhausted. However, he plans to start a new, shorter series before the end of the year, so fans should keep an eye out for announcements. He emphasized that he isn’t stopping work altogether.
Even though Asano is taking a break, he still plans to launch a new series this year while Mujina into the Deep is paused. He’s already started designing the main characters for Season 2, but fans shouldn’t expect Mujina into the Deep to return until next year.
What Is Mujina into the Deep About?

Terumi Morgan is a man who’s learned not to expect much from life. He spends his days working and relaxing with adult content, but everything changes when a simple sick day leads him to cross paths with a young runaway and a deadly mujina assassin. This encounter throws him into a world of danger and completely transforms his ordinary existence.
So far, five volumes of the series have been published, with three currently available in English. Volume 4 is scheduled for release on May 19, 2026, and you can pre-order it now from Viz Media’s website. The website also has links to purchase previous volumes in both physical and digital formats. While a release date for Volume 6 hasn’t been announced yet, the Japanese version will be released in May.
