Peter Capaldi confirms he rejected Celebrity Traitors season 2 – and explains why

With speculation swirling about who will be joining the cast of The Traitors this season, one actor has confirmed they won’t be participating – and their reason for declining might come as a surprise.

In an interview on BBC’s Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg, the actor said he turned down the opportunity to be on the next season of The Celebrity Traitors.

I enjoy working on my music, but it’s hard for people in the industry to understand why I prefer to keep things relatively small-scale.

Production for the second celebrity version of the show is starting up soon. While the BBC hasn’t officially announced who will be participating, rumors about the cast are already circulating.

The BBC has announced a second season of Celebrity Traitors just days after Alan Carr won the first season. Potential contestants being considered include Michael Sheen, Cheryl Tweedy, and Hugh Grant.

As a critic, I’ve been watching the numbers, and it’s no surprise the BBC renewed The Celebrity Traitors. Kalpna Patel-Knight, who heads up entertainment over there, put it perfectly: Studio Lambert really nailed this one. It’s genuinely become a national obsession, a real standout show this year that’s brought in huge audiences and kept everyone hooked with its unpredictable drama. It’s a hit, plain and simple.

The castle will reopen in 2026, inviting famous faces to compete in a new season of the game. Expect plenty of charm, strategy, and suspense as players battle to be the last one standing – series two is set to be just as captivating as the first!

The Celebrity Traitors will return later this year. Season 1 is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
