Jared Padalecki’s The Boys Character Officially Confirmed (& He’s the Replacement for S5’s Dead Hero)

It’s now official: Jared Padalecki will be joining season 5 of The Boys. Fans have been hoping for a reunion between Padalecki and his Supernatural co-star Jensen Ackles (who plays Soldier Boy) for some time, and it’s finally happening. Misha Collins, also from Supernatural, will be joining them. While details about Padalecki’s character were kept secret, he has now confirmed he’ll be part of the show’s final season.

At the FACTS Convention in Belgium, Jared Padalecki confirmed a long-standing fan theory: he’ll be playing the character Mister Marathon in season 5 of The Boys. A TikTok clip captured his confirmation, revealing the speedster will finally appear after being mentioned throughout the series. This makes sense given A-Train’s death in the season premiere, which creates an opening for a new supe to be introduced.

What To Expect From Jared Padalecki’s Mister Marathon

Currently, Mister Marathon in The Boys is known only as a former member of the Seven who didn’t last as long on the team as A-Train. The comic book version of the character died quickly, and it seems the TV show is diverging from that storyline. Eric Kripke has confirmed Mister Marathon will appear in episode 5, alongside Misha Collins’ new character, but details about his role are still limited.

Kripke has previously joked that both Padalecki and Collins were cast as unpleasant characters, which seems to align with the limited glimpses we’ve gotten of Mister Marathon on The Boys. While it’s thought their roles will be short, that hasn’t been officially confirmed. Still, casting Padalecki as the hero, previously mentioned by A-Train and Lamplighter, is a satisfying development for fans.

In season 5 of The Boys, Mister Marathon could end up helping either Soldier Boy or Billy Butcher take down Homelander, or Homelander might recruit him to strengthen his own team. It’s unclear whose side he’ll be on, and he probably won’t be a central character—he doesn’t have a big role in the original comic books, and he’s being introduced relatively late in the series. Still, fans of Supernatural will enjoy seeing Jared Padalecki work with Misha Collins and Jensen Ackles again, all under Eric Kripke, and his appearance is sure to be a memorable part of The Boys’ story.
