Alongside Invincible, The Boys is one of Amazon Prime Video’s biggest hits, but surprisingly, the show will conclude after its fifth season. Although several spinoffs are planned, they likely won’t reach the same level of popularity as the original series. It’s clear Prime Video wants to keep The Boys going, and I have an idea how they could do it.
When The Boys first came out, it was a huge success, and Prime Video immediately decided to adapt the entire comic book series. Although the TV show has made some changes to the original story, it generally follows the same path, leading everyone to believe season 5 would be the end. Now that season 5 has arrived, that remains true – it’s confirmed to be the show’s finale. However, while a complete return of The Boys seems unlikely, Prime Video could potentially revisit the story with a new iteration in the future.
The Boys Could Return With An Adaptation Of Dear Becky

I was so thrilled when The Boys comic came back in 2020! I thought it was over back in 2012, but then came Dear Becky. It’s an eight-issue story that picks up after the main series ended, and it was released alongside the second season of the TV show. It’s amazing to see what happens next and even better to catch up with some familiar faces from the original run.
The new series, Dear Becky, takes place twelve years after the events of The Boys. It begins as Hughie Campbell prepares to marry Starlight. Just before the wedding, Hughie receives a diary belonging to the late Billy Butcher. As he reads it, Hughie gains insight into Butcher’s state of mind during the final events of The Boys, and the reasons behind his actions. Reading the journal forces Hughie to confront past trauma, and he also tries to figure out who sent him the diary in the first place.
The storyline from ‘Dear Becky’ is relatively contained, making it suitable for a short adaptation – perhaps just a few episodes. It’s not substantial enough to support a full spinoff series, so the best approach would likely be a limited revival of The Boys. Given that Hughie is central to The Boys, it would be great if the show’s continuation primarily followed him and Starlight, and further delved into the emotional fallout from Butcher’s actions. The show is already moving in this direction, and adapting ‘Dear Becky’ could provide a satisfying conclusion to that arc.
The show The Boys might end with a glimpse of Dear Becky, potentially showing Hughie reading Butcher’s book in the final moments. If not, Dear Becky could serve as a great continuation of the story on Prime Video. However, it would be smart to wait a few years before revisiting The Boys with Dear Becky. Allowing the actors to age and giving viewers a break from the characters would make the emotional impact of the continuation even stronger.
The Boys Could Also Adapt Butcher, Baker, Candlestickmaker As A Prequel Series

Besides “Dear Becky,” Prime Video could also use the comic series “Butcher, Baker, Candlestickmaker” to expand The Boys universe. This six-issue series came out in 2011, near the end of the main comic run. Although some of its story overlaps with The Boys, it’s mostly a prequel, giving the show creators flexibility to adapt it after season 5 finishes.
The comic series Butcher, Baker, Candlestickmaker tells the story of how Billy Butcher became the man we know. It covers his experiences in the Marines, the loss of his wife, his time working with the CIA, and how he first brought The Boys together. This backstory would be a fascinating addition to the world of The Boys, especially after the events of the show’s ending, and would give readers a deeper understanding of Butcher’s character.
A show focusing on Butcher, called Butcher, Baker, Candlestickmaker, appears to be a more secure project for Prime Video. It’s a fast-paced story that connects directly to the events of The Boys, and prequels are generally well-received by audiences. If a direct sequel to The Boys doesn’t happen, this series would be an ideal way to continue the story.
