Jorginho is getting the job done.
As a huge Chappell Roan fan, I was really worried when I saw reports that a soccer star was claiming she’d had security confront his stepdaughter, Ada. Ada is Catherine Harding’s daughter with Jude Law, and it all sounded so messy! Thankfully, he’s now explained what happened, and it seems like a lot of the initial claims were inaccurate. I’m so relieved to hear things are being clarified – Chappell deserves better than that kind of drama!
I spoke out immediately after learning that a security guard had approached my wife and child in a way that felt threatening,” Jorginho explained in a statement on April 13th. “Like any parent would, my first instinct was to protect my family, and that’s what I did.
After both the man named Chappell and the security guard stated they weren’t connected and denied the claim, the 34-year-old admitted he now sees things differently and has a new understanding of what occurred.
Chappell Roan publicly addressed the situation, personally contacted Catherine, and our teams discussed it directly with each other,” he said. “We determined she wasn’t aware of what happened at breakfast and didn’t ask anyone to interfere.
The athlete, who married Catherine last year, explained that she was very understanding and supportive after what happened to their child. She wants to make sure the facts are reported correctly and fairly, and she’s sorry for any negative effect this has had on Chappell Roan, Catherine, Ada, and her family.
Looking back, things weren’t as straightforward as they initially appeared, but I want to be clear: the core of what happened did unfold as we first understood it. We made decisions based on the information we had at the time, and we acted in good faith with what we knew.
He explained it was all just a misunderstanding and he was happy to clarify things. He then stated he considered the issue resolved.

Chappell didn’t ask the security guard to confront the 11-year-old child, who Jorginho had said was very upset and cried after the incident.
The Grammy winner explained in an Instagram Story on March 22nd that she wasn’t disturbed while having breakfast at her hotel, and the bodyguard people were talking about wasn’t hired for her personal protection.
The security guard, who gave his name as Pascal Duvier, stated he didn’t work for Chappell.

In an Instagram post on March 25th, he explained he was at the hotel representing someone else, and wasn’t involved with Chappell Roan‘s security. He clarified that his actions weren’t connected to Chappell Roan, her team, her management, or anyone else.
Pascal explained that security concerns were high at the time, and he said he spoke to Ada and her mother hoping to do the right thing.
He clarified that his actions were independent and not connected to Chappell Roan, her team, or her management, and he expressed regret over how the situation unfolded.

Though it might seem sudden, Chappell Roan has actually been creating music for years, starting in high school when she posted covers and original songs on YouTube. She caught the attention of Atlantic Records and signed a record deal during her senior year, but the excitement felt surprisingly muted at Willard High School.
In a November 2023 interview with Amazon Music, Kayleigh Amstutz shared that the announcement of her signing to Atlantic Records was made over the school’s public address system, followed by the news that pizza would be served for lunch.

Your favorite artist’s favorite artist turned to her family when coming up with her alter ego.
Kayleigh Rose Amstutz was born on February 19, 1998, in Willard, Missouri. However, she always felt disconnected from her birth name and has said she chose her stage name inspired by the music her grandfather loved.
She explained to Cherwell in August 2022 that her last name, Chappell, was a tribute to her grandfather, Dennis K. Chappell. She had promised him she would use the name in his honor before he passed away from brain cancer in 2016. Her first name, Roan, came from his favorite song, “Strawberry Roan,” a classic Western tune about a reddish-pink horse, making it a deeply meaningful choice.

Growing up, Chappell attended church multiple times a week, a ritual that made her feel trapped.
She explained to Variety in September 2023 that she struggled with conflicting desires. “I really wanted to be seen as a good person, but I also felt this strong urge to break free,” she said. “I would sneak out often, even though I was still going to church three times a week. It was like I was trying to be a ‘good girl’ while simultaneously wanting to rebel and cause chaos.”
The singer says she’s no longer actively involved with the church, but she still appreciates the values it taught her.
She told Vanity Fair in September 2023 that she’s no longer affiliated with the Christian Church, but she’s grateful for her time within the community. She feels she understands their viewpoint and can appreciate where they’re coming from, giving her a unique perspective on difficult or perplexing issues that others might find baffling.

This midwestern princess was almost a Mid-WED-stern princess.
In a TikTok video from July 2023, she shared that she’d come close to getting married twice, but didn’t offer any further details.
Although we don’t know much about her previous relationships, the singer of “Hot to Go” is known for publicly calling out her exes. Before performing her song “My Kink is Karma” at the 2024 Bonnaroo festival, she sent a pointed message to someone she used to date.
She announced that the song was about her former partner, adding, ‘It’s strange to see you turn into the person you always criticized, while I’ve achieved everything I hoped for.’
And at a later performance she spoke directly to her ex’s new fiancé.
She explained the song was about her ex, who had been telling people at a bar back home that they used to date her. She added it was also a message to her ex’s fiancé, urging them to end the relationship.

Chappell’s first album was initially going to be called Femininomenon, after one of her 2022 songs. But she changed the title because she thought it was too difficult for people to say. She eventually chose The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess to highlight her upbringing in the Midwest.
She told Variety that showcasing the Midwest was crucial to her project because it deeply impacts everything she does – her music, style, songwriting, and overall vibe. Capturing that Midwestern influence is important to her, as she once worried she was losing touch with that part of herself, but now feels reconnected to it.
The new album title more accurately reflects the story of the artist moving from her hometown in Missouri to chase her musical dreams in Los Angeles.

After being signed to Atlantic Records for five years, Chappell was dropped by the label in 2020.
She explained that her team worried her song “Pink Pony Club,” created with producer Dan Nigro, wouldn’t be successful during the pandemic and didn’t fit the darker style of music she was making then.
She explained on Q with Tom Power that her record label dropped her, something that happened to many artists in 2020. Labels were letting artists go if they weren’t profitable, and the music industry really suffered that year. Since touring—how most artists earn money—wasn’t possible, she found herself dropped. Her song ‘Pink Pony’ came out in April 2020, which wasn’t a good time for a club track, and she admitted the label wasn’t even enthusiastic about releasing it in the first place.

When her record label, Atlantic, ended their contract, Chappell returned to her hometown in Missouri to live with her parents and took a job at a drive-through restaurant. She has said this period made her really rethink her career in music.
As she recalled, “I was just kind of like, ‘I wonder if this is really for me.’”
Despite the challenges, she remained committed to her music and kept working on her unique style on her own.
Looking back, she told Rolling Stone in 2022 that even though her time with a record label was difficult for five years, it ultimately proved to be a huge benefit. She also learned through being independent that she’s capable of handling things on her own.

Chappell isn’t Dan’s only pop princess.
Dan discovered Olivia Rodrigo in 2020 when he saw a video of her singing her unreleased song, “Happier,” on Instagram. They quickly began working together, and their collaboration on “Driver’s License” launched Olivia into the spotlight.
Dan and Olivia were hitting it off, but Chappell was back in Missouri focusing on her music. When Chappell came back to Los Angeles and started working with Dan again, she met Olivia, and the two quickly became very close.
Oh my gosh, I was there! I saw Chappell open for Olivia Rodrigo not once, but twice! The first time was in San Francisco back in May 2022 for the Sour Tour, and then again when the GUTS tour kicked off in 2024! It was amazing both times, seriously. I’m so glad I got to see them perform together!
She described being shocked and thrilled by her rapid success. Having played her first headlining show to just 200 people in May of the previous year, she was amazed to be performing for 20,000 people less than two years later. She also mentioned opening for the artist in San Francisco the previous May, where she played to a crowd of 9,000. While smaller, that show had a particularly energetic atmosphere due to the artist’s younger fanbase.

Chappell has not only performed as an opening act for Olivia Rodrigo on two occasions, but she’s also contributed backing vocals to several of Rodrigo’s tracks.
I was so excited to hear her talk about her first album on Capital Buzz! She shared that she actually sang backing vocals on some of my favorites – “Obsessed,” “Lacy,” and “Bad Idea, Right?” – which is amazing. And get this, she also recorded vocals for the song Olivia Rodrigo did for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, “Can’t Catch Me Now”! It just proves how incredibly talented she is.

During an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she explained that she and her stylist, Genesis Webb, find inspiration for her dramatic style from a variety of sources, including drag, horror films, burlesque, and theater. She enjoys playing with contrasts, like looking both beautiful and frightening, or pretty and over-the-top, and also isn’t afraid to embrace looks that aren’t traditionally considered beautiful.
No matter what daring outfit she chooses – whether it’s a see-through latex skirt, a fake pig nose, or sparkly butterfly wings – she always manages to create a stunning and memorable impression.

I’ll never forget the moment it hit me – Chappell Roan wasn’t just the name she performed under, it was her, fully realized as a drag artist. It was like everything clicked into place, and I understood so much more about her artistry. It wasn’t a character she played; it was who she is.
I had a drag queen named Crayola open for me during a show in London. She pointed out that I wasn’t just wearing makeup, but truly embodying the art of drag, which was a really impactful moment for me. I’ve since embraced that identity, and it’s been incredibly liberating to think of Chappell Roan as my drag persona. It’s also helped me to create a healthy separation between my work and personal life.

While on The Tonight Show, comedian Hannah Gadsby (who goes by Chappell) revealed that RuPaul’s Drag Race season 15 winner Sasha Colby inspired the line, “I’m your favorite artist’s favorite artist.”
She explained that line was a shout-out to Sasha Colby, referencing Colby’s famous saying, ‘I’m your favorite drag queen’s favorite drag queen.’ It really resonated with her, and she hoped Sasha Colby would see her performance someday, which is why she included the reference.
One month after that, the popular drag performer surprised the crowd by joining Chappell onstage during her set at the 2024 Capitol Hill Block Party.

As someone who’s navigated a lot in life, I want to share that I was diagnosed with Bipolar II in 2022. Interestingly, it was actually the attention and growth I experienced with my career that really pushed me to prioritize my mental health and seek support. It’s been a journey, but a really important one.
Honestly, when I read her interview in Rolling Stone back in September 2024, my heart just broke for her. She said her whole childhood was just…miserable. Can you imagine? She described herself as a total freak – and so shy, always worrying about what everyone thought. It’s just…she said all her parents could do was try, and it just gets me. I feel so connected to her because of that vulnerability. It’s like she understands what it’s like to feel different, and it’s amazing.
She finally said, “I came to the realization that I couldn’t keep living the way I was. I was so deeply depressed and felt so lost that I’d even considered ending my life. But I’ve managed to turn things around and get my life back on track.”
Since learning about her condition, Chappell has openly shared her mental health journey with fans and hopes to reduce the shame and misunderstanding often associated with it.
She shared on Instagram that this issue impacts her every day and significantly influences her music. She’s currently doing well and wanted to open up about it, emphasizing the importance of discussing mental health.

This Midwestern princess won’t be dating another singer anytime in the future.
In a September 2024 interview with Rolling Stone, the singer of “School Nights” openly stated they don’t want to date other musicians, saying they find them to be ‘crazy.’
In March 2025, Chappell shared that she’d been dating someone for six months and was very happy with how things were going.
“It’s serious,” she said on the Call Her Daddypodcast. “I’m very in love.”
She added, “I’m dating the same person that I was dating before [my career] blew up.”

Let me tell you, I was so inspired by Chappell! She’s always been authentic, but earlier this year, during a show in Ohio, she publicly shared that she identifies as a lesbian. It’s wonderful to see her living her truth and being so open about her journey. It really resonated with me and I think it will with a lot of people.
I was really struck by something she shared with Rolling Stone. She basically said she wasn’t meant to be with men, and honestly, it resonated with me so much. She even admitted she’s now a little turned off by the idea of kissing a guy, because she feels like no man could ever compare to the connection she has with women. It’s a really powerful statement, and I totally get where she’s coming from.
Despite her progress, she admitted she still occasionally struggles with her sexuality. “I don’t understand why it bothers me sometimes,” she explained. “It shouldn’t, but I’m realizing I need to accept how I feel.”
Even though she still sometimes feels uneasy, Chappell is comfortable with being queer, but she doesn’t want to constantly discuss it.

Chappell revealed during her June performance at the 2024 Governor’s Ball that she declined an invitation from President Joe Biden to perform at the White House for Pride Month.
She said her decision hinged on achieving liberty, justice, and freedom for everyone. Once those things are in place, she’ll be there, she explained.
During the performance, she also demanded equal rights for marginalized communities.
Dressed as the Statue of Liberty, she powerfully stated, “I represent the ultimate queen, but let’s not forget the message inscribed on my very being: ‘Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.’ This embodies freedom for transgender rights, women’s rights, and most importantly, for all people facing oppression in occupied lands.”

Before performing at the 2024 VMAs, where she took inspiration from Joan of Arc, Chappell had a heated exchange with a photographer on the red carpet. The photographer reportedly told someone to “Shut the fk up,” and Chappell angrily responded, shouting “YOU shut the fk up. Don’t! Not me, bh.”
Her reasoning for standing up for herself is quite simple.
Honestly, the whole celebrity aspect really bothers me. Some women have dealt with that for years and are used to it, but I’m not one of them. I absolutely refuse to be nice to someone who’s trying to silence me – not now, not ever. It’s just not something I’m willing to tolerate.
Chappell demonstrated a remarkable memory when she approached another photographer at the premiere of Netflix’s Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour to address a past unpleasant experience.
She confronted a photographer, telling him, “You were really disrespectful to me at the Grammys and even yelled at me at the after-party. I haven’t forgotten it, and I think I deserve an apology for how rude you were. I need you to apologize.”

Though famous for her catchy pop hits, the Grammy-winning artist is trying something new with her country song, “The Giver.”
Chappell explained on Apple Music’s Today’s Country Radio with Kelleigh Bannen in March 2025 that he wrote a country song simply because he thought it would be amusing. He described the song as ‘campy and fun.’
Although the song was a chance for Chappell to have some fun, she also shared that it represents a return to the kind of music she first started making.
She explained that she was raised in southwest Missouri, listening to Christian and country music. Then, she discovered Lady Gaga’s song ‘Alejandro,’ which opened her up to other genres, but she still holds a special place for country music in her heart.

The singer known for her hit “Red Wine Supernova” – and who’s often talked about the downsides of being famous – believes she’d be even more popular if she didn’t share her honest opinions so openly.
In January 2025, Chappell told the BBC that he believes he’d achieve greater success if he could suppress his natural reactions. He explained that if he ignored his gut feelings – the internal voice telling him to stop – he could reach a wider audience.
