Dwayne Johnson’s Jumanji 3 Gets Title, Plot & Footage With Robin Williams Easter Egg

Sony Pictures announced the fourth Jumanji movie at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. While the third film with Dwayne Johnson was expected to be the last for the current actors, a new installment is now confirmed with an official title and a sneak peek.

Dwayne Johnson’s next Jumanji is called Open World, plot revealed

Okay, so the next Jumanji movie – the fourth one, technically – finally has a title: Jumanji: Open World. I got a sneak peek at some footage at a recent convention, and let me tell you, the stakes are higher than ever. The big twist? It looks like the game itself is breaking out of the virtual world and coming into our reality. That’s right, the game comes home, and honestly, it looks pretty wild.

The trailer starts with the characters looking at an old video game console, and things quickly become strange and distorted. Danny DeVito’s character brings everyone together at a diner, where Dwayne Johnson, playing Dr. Bravestone, unexpectedly speaks with a Spanish accent. This leads to a funny argument with Kevin Hart later in the trailer.

The movie’s story kicks off with the video game characters unexpectedly trapped in a demo version of the game, bringing Karen Gillan and Jack Black back for more adventure. Things quickly heat up when they run into the Jumanji guide, and the game’s jungle world starts bleeding into the real one. Giant creatures, like lizards and rhinos, cause chaos everywhere – even on the highway, where Dwayne Johnson comically tries to drive. The idea of an open-world Jumanji is taken to the extreme, with the characters zooming through both the game and reality before they realize they need to go back inside to fix everything.

Dwayne Johnson revealed that every scene in “Jumanji: The Next Level” includes a hidden Easter egg, such as half of the original dice used in the 1995 film. He explained this was a tribute to Robin Williams and a way to honor the legacy he began with the original “Jumanji.” The movie stars Nick Jonas, alongside returning cast members Bebe Neuwirth, Lamorne Morris, Marin Hinkle, and Rhys Darby, and welcomes newcomers Dan Hildebrand and Jack Jewkes (according to Screenrant).

After moving from a December 11 date, Jumanji: Open World will open on Christmas Day.
