Richard Gadd and MasterChef’s Grace Dent and Anna Haugh are on this week’s covers

I’m so excited about this week’s issue! We actually have two different covers, depending on what you’re into. As a subscriber, I’m really looking forward to the new season of MasterChef – it’s such a classic show! I’ve heard Grace Dent and Anna Haugh are taking over as presenters, and everyone says they’re brilliant – witty, tough but also really kind to the people competing.

This week’s issue explores how competitors cope with the stress and excitement of the event. Dent brilliantly describes the initial stages as feeling unexpectedly difficult, comparing it to the simple task of making an omelette while on vacation: “To anyone who can get through those first few rounds, I think, wow… it’s like going to a holiday cottage and trying to make a simple omelette.”

Honestly, it’s a little nerve-wracking knowing there’s a whole film crew and those judges – they can be intimidating! – watching and interviewing you. But even with all that, I feel really good about this whole experience. There’s a genuine warmth and excitement from everyone involved, and it makes me hopeful for what’s next.

Richard Gadd’s new show, Half Man, which comes after Baby Reindeer, is a raw and unflinching drama. It doesn’t shy away from difficult emotions, psychological complexity, or moral ambiguity. While it’s a challenging watch, it’s also incredibly gripping.

As Gadd explains in his own words, he believes that staying true to your vision is essential – if you lose your passion or start writing to please others, the work won’t succeed. This principle is clearly visible throughout this remarkable series.

So, there are two different magazine covers. One focuses on happiness, while the other tackles a difficult or serious topic – something that might be just as important to explore.
