Anne Hathaway is never going out of style as her newest thriller has become the talk of the town.
Anne Hathaway is a highly celebrated actress who consistently takes on diverse and challenging roles. She first gained recognition as a young star in The Princess Diaries (2001) and later won an Academy Award for her talent. Throughout her career, she’s appeared in numerous blockbuster films, including The Devil Wears Prada (2006), Les Misérables (2012), The Dark Knight Rises (2012), and Ocean’s 8 (2018).
Her new film, the musical thriller Mother Mary, is getting mixed reviews. While some critics praise it as a beautifully intense exploration of pain and a haunting gothic pop opera, others find it vague, uncertain, and ultimately unsatisfying. Despite the divided opinions, the film currently holds a respectable 78% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 23 reviews.
I recently read Molly Freeman’s review on ScreenRant, and she really hit the nail on the head. She said the movie’s symbolism gets so overwhelming that it’s hard to understand what the film is actually trying to say. It’s beautiful to look at, for sure, but I think that beauty actually distracts from the story. Thankfully, the acting – especially from Coel and Hathaway – manages to pull you back in and recapture some of that lost magic. They really shine, even when the metaphors feel a bit much.
This suspenseful film is also a musical, featuring new songs written and produced by Charli XCX, FKA Twigs, and Jack Antonoff, and includes vocals from Anne Hathaway. It will be released in the U.S. on April 17th, with a broader release across the country on April 24th. The movie runs for 1 hour and 52 minutes.
Mother Mary stars Anne Hathaway as the famous singer of the same name. As she prepares for a big return to the stage, old hurts resurface when she reconnects with her longtime friend and former costume designer. The film, directed by David Lowery (known for movies like Pete’s Dragon and The Green Knight), promises to be a visually stunning and emotionally resonant experience, boosted by its talented cast including Hathaway, Michaela Coel, and Hunter Schafer.
The movie Mother Mary will open in U.S. theaters on April 17th, with a wider release across the country on April 24th.
