Xbox Game Pass has become more expensive recently, and instead of adding more games to make it worth the cost, it may actually be losing some of its best titles. The most expensive plan, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, now costs $30 per month, but it aims to justify that price by giving players access to new games on the day they are released.
Xbox will continue to release new games on day one through Game Pass, with titles like Forza Horizon 6, Halo: Campaign Evolved, and Fable available to Ultimate subscribers at launch. However, it’s currently uncertain whether future Call of Duty games will be included.
Call Of Duty Might Leave Xbox Game Pass
Jez Corden, editor at Windows Central, recently shared a possibility in a YouTube video: Call of Duty might not stay on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate forever. He suggests Microsoft could remove Call of Duty from the service in 2026, based on what he’s been hearing.
During the episode, Cordon pointed out that having Call of Duty on Game Pass is a big financial commitment for Microsoft, as they compensate their internal game studios based on how well games perform on the service. He personally would prefer a cheaper subscription option that doesn’t include Call of Duty. He believes the $30 monthly cost of Game Pass Ultimate might be too high in the long run and predicts that the new head of Microsoft Gaming, Asha Sharma, could make changes to the service this year.
The Future Of Game Pass Is Uncertain
Right now, this is all just guessing, and it’s possible we won’t see a new Call of Duty game this year. But even if things change, it might actually be a positive development.
Xbox Game Pass might keep offering access to Call of Duty for around $30, or provide a cheaper version of the Ultimate subscription without Call of Duty. Currently, Call of Duty doesn’t follow the usual Game Pass rules – Premium subscribers get access to it right away, unlike other games that become available a year after release.
With prices and quality not improving much anywhere, it’s understandable to be worried about the future of Xbox Game Pass. One thing we know for sure is that a new Call of Duty game will be released soon, and we should learn by the end of the year if Game Pass subscribers will be able to play it.
