Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Finale Fight Was Originally Much Longer Before Changes

The climactic battle in the third season of Jujutsu Kaisen was initially intended to be longer, according to one of the show’s actors. Season 3 featured several large-scale episodes centered around the first part of the Culling Game tournament, and the season finale was particularly ambitious. It even received extra time to include all of Yuta Okkotsu’s fights within the Sendai Colony in one episode. However, the episode wasn’t always planned to be so extensive.

Megumi Ogata, the voice actor for Yuta Okkotsu, revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that Yuta’s battle with Takako Uro and Ryu Ishigori was initially intended to be contained within one episode. However, the production team considered extending it to two, but worried that doing so would slow the fight down and make it feel unlike the fast-paced action typically seen in Jujutsu Kaisen. They feared it would result in drawn-out scenes of characters simply posing or staring at each other.

Yuta’s Fight Was Originally Two Episodes in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3

According to director Ogata, the team chose to condense Yuta’s fight in the Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 finale into a single episode to maintain its intensity. They worried that spreading it over two episodes, like a typical anime fight, would slow the action down with unnecessary pauses and posturing, which didn’t align with the show’s fast-paced style. They aimed for a continuous, relentless battle, and judging by the positive fan reaction, it was a successful decision.

Season 3 of Jujutsu Kaisen had two episodes that were longer than usual. These episodes each covered several chapters from Gege Akutami’s manga. The first was the episode focusing on Maki’s battle with the Zenin Clan, and the second was the recent fight with Yuta. This approach actually worked out well for both, because the season would have ended on a less impactful cliffhanger if they hadn’t combined chapters. A cliffhanger was inevitable either way, so condensing the story was a smart choice.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4 to Continue Culling Game

A new season of Jujutsu Kaisen has been confirmed, following the conclusion of season three. Season four, titled Jujutsu Kaisen: The Culling Game Part 2, will cover the second part of the intense tournament arc. Many mysteries remain surrounding Kenjaku’s plans for the tournament, and fans can look forward to exciting battles, including more of the powerful fighter Kinji Hakari who hasn’t had a chance to fully shine in the anime yet.

The Culling Game is the final story arc in Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen manga, so fans are eager to see how the anime will adapt the remaining events in its fourth season. The anime’s willingness to adjust the pacing of moments, like the recent Yuta fight, suggests they may make further changes as the story continues.
