Pearl Abyss announced that Crimson Desert has reached a major milestone, selling 5 million copies globally. The studio shared the news on social media, thanking players for their support since the game launched last month.
I’m so excited to hear that Crimson Desert has already sold over 5 million copies! Pearl Abyss recently shared the news and thanked all of us ‘Greymanes’ – that’s what they call the fans – for joining them on this adventure in the world of Pywel. They said reaching this huge milestone wouldn’t have been possible without our support, and honestly, it’s awesome to be a part of something so many people are enjoying. It’s really cool to see the game doing so well!
Pearl Abyss recently announced that their open-world action game has now sold 5 million copies, just a few weeks after confirming 4 million sales. This progress aligns with CEO Heo Jin-young’s earlier statement in March, where he promised to announce the 5 million milestone as soon as it was reached.
During an earnings call, Heo announced the company plans to promptly inform shareholders about surpassing 5 million copies sold, and emphasized that all employees are committed to achieving strong results by year’s end. He also touched on the potential release of a Nintendo Switch 2, noting that the current Switch’s hardware is less powerful than competitors, which would require some compromises. He confirmed the studio has started research and development related to a new console with interest.
Crimson Desert is performing well in sales, likely due to ongoing support from Pearl Abyss. They’ve consistently released free updates, and just this week added features that improve the player experience, such as the option to hide weapons and new character abilities.
I’m so excited to hear that Pearl Abyss is listening to us fans! They’ve confirmed they’re planning to add a bunch of features we’ve been asking for in Crimson Desert. One of the coolest things is that we’ll be able to refight bosses whenever we want! It’s a great way to see how much better we’ve gotten, and really experiment with different ways to beat them – perfect for perfecting your combat style.
As players progress further into Crimson Desert, they’ll encounter a new challenge called re-blockading, where previously secured areas can be recaptured by enemies. The game will also offer three difficulty settings – Easy, Normal, and Hard – to cater to different player skill levels. While Pearl Abyss hasn’t announced a release date for these features yet, they could significantly improve the late-game experience, which currently lacks sufficient combat encounters.
#CrimsonDesert has sold through over 5 million copies worldwide!
Thank you to every Greymane who has joined us on this journey, experienced the world of Pywel, and supported the game. Reaching this milestone would not have been possible without your support and we are truly…— Crimson Desert (@CrimsonDesert_) April 15, 2026
