To build excitement for the May 19th release of Forza Horizon 6, Playground Games has released the second of three videos in their ‘The Art of Driving’ series. The first video featured car photographer Larry Chen and artist DRAGON76 (Satoshi Fujita) exploring Tohoku. This new episode follows Chen as he travels to Kyushu with Kazuhisa Uragami.
Episode 2 introduces a new vehicle for Chen and Uragami. They’ve switched from the Toyota Land Cruiser seen in the first episode to a Honda Civic Type R for their travels.
In the video, Chen begins the second part of his trip by heading south to Kyushu, Japan’s southernmost island. He describes it as a place defined by volcanoes, manufacturing, and its history as a hub for different cultures. He starts his journey in Kitakyushu, where he meets Uragami and they set off in his Type R car.
This is my first experience driving the Honda Civic FL5. The engine you see here is a K20C1 – a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder with VTEC technology. Surprisingly, this relatively small engine produces 315 horsepower. According to Chen, the Type R has always focused on how a car feels to drive, rather than just pure speed. What he likes most is that it’s still a practical, everyday car.
Playground Games’ ‘Art of Driving’ series showcases the artists creating murals for Forza Horizon 6. Earlier this month, the studio announced it was working with nine artists, including Fujita and Uragami. Fujita explained that his mural combines cyberpunk and fantasy themes, drawing inspiration from the Nebuta Festival.
The Nebuta Festival is famous for its large, brightly lit floats, called ‘nebuta,’ which are made with paper and wire. These floats often showcase characters from Japanese legends. For this particular float, I decided to create a modern, futuristic take on the popular mythological figure Susanoo-no-Mikoto, pairing him with a dragon, he explained.
Recently, more information about Forza Horizon 6 came to light through its list of Achievements. Playground Games has confirmed there will be 57 Achievements in total, worth 1,000 Gamerscore. These Achievements cover a variety of challenges, from easy tasks like qualifying for races and completing the story, to more difficult goals like collecting cars and finding rare vehicles.
We got a sneak peek at the beginning of Forza Horizon 6, showing off a drive through rural Japan in a 2024 Nissan GT-R Nismo, with a fast-moving bullet train running alongside. The scene then shifts to the Japanese Alps, where players will race in a 2021 RJ Anderson #37 Polaris RZR Pro 4 Truck. You can see it all in the prologue trailer.
The highly anticipated Forza Horizon 6 will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Players eager to start playing before the official launch can purchase the Premium Edition, granting them access beginning May 15th.
