Love Island’s Iris Kendall Gets New Bob—Courtesy of Chris Appleton

A new bob-shell has entered the villa.

It’s clear that the reality TV star, Iris Kendall from “Love Island”, is sporting a fresh new hairstyle thanks to celebrity stylist Chris Appleton. In a TikTok video shared by Chris on July 23rd, he unveiled Iris and her signature long honey blonde hair.

In the rhythm of “Love Island,” Iris, aged 25, mouth-syncs to the music. At this moment, the camera swiftly shifts, capturing Chris mid-haircut. He trims one side, then swivels the chair again, unveiling Iris’s fresh, stylish bob as he seals it with a spritz of hairspray.

Chris, known for creating stunning hair looks for celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez among others, captioned the video as ‘A fresh bombshell arrives at the Villa and meets Chris Appleton’.

Love Island viewers expressed their approval by commenting on the appearance, with one user saying, “Reminds me of Kristin Cavallari,” and another exclaiming, “Wow, Iris is stunning! Absolutely the correct choice.

Before unveiling her new haircut, Iris showcased her trademark long hair in a story on Instagram on July 23. She and her fellow castmate, Pepe Garcia-Gonzalez (with whom she paired up by the end of season seven), were seen expressing affection in the post.

Approximately two weeks ago, the new appearance was revealed, coinciding with Iris and Pepe’s fourth-place finish in the finale of the Peacock series. Since TJ Palma and Hannah Fields departed, Iris and Pepe have continued to nurture their relationship, which remains robust post-Fiji.

And the friendship with their exes is even stronger.

In an earlier interview with TopMob News, Iris shared that she had a heartfelt discussion with TJ where she expressed her emotions and thoughts. She emphasized that there is no animosity among them; instead, they will continue to cherish their friendship.

For his part, Pepe echoed his Iris’ sentiments about their friendships.

Pepe shared with TopMob News that we’ve both been considerate towards everyone and their emotions, and we plan to keep it up. He also expressed his gratitude for the time he spent with Hannah, saying that despite the short duration, it felt like a significant period. As time goes by, he’ll continue to cherish that experience and move forward. Lastly, he was glad to have met Iris during his stay.

Every day, over 85 cameras capture an abundance of video that needs to be condensed into a one-hour show by the end of the day.

In other words, their standard practice is to use footage captured on Monday for the following day’s broadcast, quickly editing and compiling it into an episode, and this pattern continues.

Fortunately, Fiji, the location for the first season of the show and its home since season five, is 16 hours ahead of the East Coast. This means that a late-night wrap-up translates into the following day’s morning in the U.S., offering the team valuable additional hours to perfect the upcoming episode.

According to executive producer Claudine Parrish (in 2024), the islanders will awaken to find scenes being prepared in the control room based on ongoing events. These scenes might be labeled as simple descriptions like “Boys preparing breakfast for girls.” Remarkably, only fifteen minutes after an event occurs, it’s already incorporated into the editing process and being transformed into a scene by our editor.

It takes a whole community: Parrish explained that roughly 30 editors and 20 producers work together, with a team brainstorming which key events and dialogues to integrate into a cohesive storyline.

At times, Parrish acknowledged, not everything that appears intriguing leads to something substantial. As she put it, “Sometimes we don’t get it right. We’re constantly weighing whether something is significant or will be different the next day.

It’s clear that breakfast plays a significant role on this program, as the gentlemen are responsible for cooking meals and coffee for the female contestants. This has sparked global interest.

But what does everyone eat for lunch and dinner, you ask?

In this particular program, while the food itself might not be the main topic (except for burnt pancakes or that initial omelette), it’s always there when needed.

Dani Dyer, winner of Love Island UK season four, shared with HELLO! in 2021 that there were no menus on the show. Instead, it was self-catering, meaning breakfast is prepared by the contestants themselves, offering items such as eggs, bacon, and toast.

In season eight, Luca Bish confessed his surprise about who prepared the meals, stating on a TikTok video in July 2023 that it was apparently “an unidentified chef working out in the field somewhere,” and the dishes were brought to the villa.

Instead of enjoying the food, Bish often expressed that for both his lunch and dinner, he typically had hummus and crisps.

Throughout the years, various participants have disclosed that men and women dine apart from each other, with the exception of during dates.

Olivia Attwood from ‘Love Island UK’ season three stated to The Sun in 2022, “We dine with the producers, yet it operates like a boarding school.” She explained, “When we eat together, it feels like they’re giving us tasks such as cleaning our rooms or postponing laundry until tomorrow, and asking what we prefer for breakfast the next day—all these actions keep the house functioning smoothly.

And much like being on a jury, they’re not allowed to discuss the case among themselves.

Samuel Agbiji, a contestant from season eight, shared with Closer in 2024 that it was quite challenging because while eating, one naturally wants to discuss ongoing events, but cannot do so as it interferes with the filming process.

It’s possible you could think that getting overly tipsy while being flirtatious is tolerated, if not actively supported, but the rule is that contestants can only have one alcoholic beverage each evening, and the options are strictly limited to beer, wine, or champagne.

In a June 2024 TikTok post, I, Phoebe Siegel from Love Island USA’s fourth season, expressed that when presented with a choice between a glass of red or white wine at dinner, it wasn’t quite enough to satisfy me.

In such situations where it seems like there’s an open bar, for instance, during a Casa Amor challenge victory party, Siegel pointed out that the drinks were significantly diluted with water.

Iain Stirling juggles two roles, serving as the narrator for not only Love Island UK but also Love Island USA. During production, he maintains a busy schedule.

At precisely 12 p.m., according to the U.K.’s clock, the Scottish comedian shared with TODAY in 2024 that he’d tune into Love Island UK. By then, the show was almost over. We’d pen our work for two or three hours, wrapping up around 4 p.m. Then I’d prepare my child for dinner, bath time, and bedtime. My life wasn’t as rock ‘n’ roll as I would have liked, but that was the routine. Afterward, I’d grab a bite to eat and then catch Love Island USA at 8:30 p.m., which is quite early by Fiji standards.

At home, Stirling watches a preliminary edit of the show via Zoom. As Parrish clarified to The Wrap, he and the writers are simply noting amusing elements within the scene or reminders of past plot points during this observation. These observations are then recorded from Stirling’s home microphone.

The account he gives is incorporated into the episode prior to it being submitted for review by Peacock’s legal and standards team, who may occasionally request last-minute adjustments.

In this scenario, Stirling mentioned that they aim to wrap up between 12 or 1 in the early hours of the morning. Afterward, he might stay awake until about 3:30 AM. It’s important to note that even in an ideal situation, he would prefer to keep going until 5 or 6 in the morning; however, that would essentially mean he never sleeps.

Evidence showing the longevity of the franchise: In 2020, Stirling tied the knot with the previous host of Love Island UK, Laura Whitmore. The couple was blessed with a child in March 2021.

This rephrased sentence maintains the original meaning while using simpler language and a more conversational tone to make it easier to read.

From the initial notes of “Make Me Feel” by Janelle Monae to the main theme tune, “From Fiji With Love” by The Daniel Pemberton TV Orchestra and every pop song played in between, the music on Love Island USA sets a distinct mood.

In the June 2025 interview with Rolling Stone, Love Island USA executive producer James Barker expressed that his first viewing of Love Island UK was a significant moment for him, saying “Wow, it’s like a step up in reality and storytelling when you have such a deep connection to a popular song and see it used effectively within a TV show.” He further added, “This experience made me think, ‘First, this is fantastic and more shows should emulate this format. Second, I need to work on Love Island.’

In contrast to choosing songs quickly for a specific situation, a music clearance company prepares well in advance, ensuring that popular artists such as Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX, and Olivia Rodrigo have their tracks licensed months before they are required to be used.

We constantly prepare a large number of songs, ranging from hundreds to thousands, as we can’t predict the direction the story will take. For instance, one song might be ideal for someone who eventually breaks up with someone, while another could be perfectly suited for a first kiss when the opportunity arises.

Interestingly, the inhabitants don’t get to enjoy music inside the villa due to potential complications with licensing, and additionally, because it could interfere with the hidden recording devices capturing clear conversations.

In my experience, there can be instances where the rules of song exposure deviate slightly, such as when I’m participating in specific challenges, grooving along during a leisurely slow-motion dance, or finding myself in a taxi headed out for a romantic rendezvous with the driver’s tunes providing the soundtrack.

To always make the women look their best on camera, the production team offers makeup and skincare products in the residence. They’re welcome to bring their own as well, however, any identifiable branding on their personal items will be concealed during post-production editing.

For intricate grooming tasks, experts step in to help. As Love Island UK season five alum Lucie Dolan shared with Capital FM in 2021, every few weeks we’d take care of things like nails and hair. With the extended stays inside, the nights can feel endless, and it’s hard for others to understand their length. So, having a day to relax and unwind is essential.

On their days off from work, when there’s no performance, as Whitmore shared with OK! magazine, they often have their eyelashes and acrylic nails re-done.

Once upon a time, island residents had to travel to other places, but currently, the production of the show cannot allow its competitors to be out in the natural environment while filming.

According to Whitmore, it seemed that in the initial season, they stepped out of the villa to visit a salon for a hairdo. However, due to the immense popularity of the show, this is no longer possible, so now they have someone come to them instead, to touch up their roots.

Producers say they’re perfectly content to ride the waves of romance.

In an interview with The Wrap in 2024, Love Island USA executive producer Ben Thursby-Palmer shared that they go along with the current situations as they unfold in the villa. If everyone is content in their couples, there’s no need for recoupling. Conversely, if everyone is sleeping separately around the villa, we have to shake things up and bring them back together.

According to Samie Elishi, who appeared on Love Island UK’s ninth season in a YouTube video released in April 2023, the show wasn’t scripted entirely. However, he explained that if producers didn’t prompt us to discuss our relationships or argue with someone, there wouldn’t be a show. While they do encourage conversations, what is actually discussed during those interactions is entirely up to the participants themselves.

Communication devices like phones, which allow the residents to make calls and send messages, take pictures, and receive notifications about future events they can listen to, are provided by production.

In 2019, Liana Isadora Van Riel from Love Island UK season two shared with The Sun that the contestants are provided with simple phones for texting each other. However, she mentioned that these phones aren’t frequently used and primarily exist for the ‘I’ve got a text’ drama.

Apart from that, as Siegel from Love Island USA mentioned on TikTok, “There’s no Googling, no television watching, no social media access, no texting with anyone outside the program.

In keeping with the customary role of peacekeepers in reality competition shows, Ariana Madix, the host of Love Island USA, must feign indifference towards the events she’s overseeing.

In her conversation with The Wrap in 2024, she expressed that it can be challenging because there are moments when she feels tempted to join the action, but as a host, she must maintain some neutrality, especially when they’re present.

Concurrently, she intervened during the elimination of Andrea Carmona in season six and Rob Rausch spontaneously declared that he would depart alongside her. However, Madix subtly suggested he rethink his decision, which ultimately led him to stay put.

In Madix’s words, “It seems imprudent to make such significant decisions during intense emotional periods.” Moreover, there was a part of him that felt tempted to challenge his intentions since he wasn’t convinced he truly intended to depart.

Madix pointed out that no cameramen are physically present among the islanders. However, cameras are strategically placed all over the villa, including some with movable sliders hidden behind walls. While the islanders usually don’t notice the cameramen, they are always recording. The only areas of the house not visible to the cameras are the obvious ones like bathrooms, and even seemingly private corners aren’t truly confidential.

A secluded area devoid of cameras: The kitchen pantry as mentioned by Elishi from Love Island UK, a place where snacks are kept. She revealed in her April 2023 video that only one person is permitted entry at once due to past incidents involving a couple within the pantry.

Several participants on “Love Island UK” have mentioned that branded condoms for the show are distributed throughout the villa, and they can be restocked whenever needed.

Before the bombshells arrive, which could change the current situation, they are permitted to watch the show as a refresher on the events that have transpired thus far.

In a 2023 episode of her podcast, “Chloe vs. The World,” Chloe Burrows, a contestant on Love Island UK, shared that she doesn’t watch episodes that air before she joins the show herself, and then discusses her top three preferred islanders among those already in the villa.

While the cameras never stop filming, the contestants do get one day off a week to just hang out.

Translation: This implies that the same rules as mealtimes apply, which means no gossiping or resolving conflicts during the current day. Furthermore, since they don’t have specific days for dates, male and female companions cannot sleep in the same bed at night on their off-days.

As a former contestant on Love Island UK’s third season, I can share that when we take our microphones off, there are certain topics we’re not permitted to discuss related to the show. We can engage in casual conversations, but the production team is cautious about what we talk about to ensure viewers at home can see and enjoy it on video. Essentially, it’s a well-deserved break from the intense games, dates, and the process of deciding who we find attractive and unattractive.
