Universal Studios CinemaCon 2026 Panel: Live Blog (In Progress)

CinemaCon, the biggest movie industry trade show where Hollywood studios showcase their future films to theater owners and distributors, continues today with a presentation from Universal Studios!

At last year’s CinemaCon, Universal Studios generated a lot of excitement with previews of its upcoming films, including the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon, the next chapter in the Wicked story, Wicked For Good, and the already popular Jurassic World Rebirth.

Universal Studios is also releasing a lot of exciting films this year, and the biggest one might be the new Michael Jackson biopic, simply titled Michael. Jaafar Jackson stars as the iconic singer, and the movie tells the story of Michael’s life as he launches his career as a solo artist. Early viewers are already praising the film.

Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, The Odyssey, is expected to be a major highlight of the event. Nolan has a reputation for attracting both large audiences and significant box office success, and theater owners are eager to get a closer look at his newest project. The film features a star-studded cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, and Anne Hathaway.

Universal Studios is also expected to showcase its upcoming Minions & Monsters movie and Steven Spielberg’s new science fiction film, Disclosure Day, at CinemaCon. They might also reveal details about their next movie based on a Nintendo property, possibly featuring Donkey Kong.

Snoop Dogg Biopic

CinemaCon started with a surprise performance by Snoop Dogg! He opened Universal Studios’ panel with his hit song, “Drop It Like It’s Hot.”

Snoop Dogg announced he’s making a biopic about his life, simply titled Snoop, while speaking at CinemaCon. He explained that he’s excited to finally share his own story, comparing the project to the film Straight Outta Compton.

Snoop announced that Jonathan Davis, recently known for his part in the Netflix series Outer Banks, will be portraying a younger version of his own character.

The film will be directed by Craig Brewer and produced by Brian Grazer and Snoop Dogg.

The Odyssey

The presentation of Oppenheimer at CinemaCon started with a look back at Christopher Nolan’s impressive filmography. His latest movie, Oppenheimer, was a major awards winner, including taking home the Oscar for Best Picture.

Christopher Nolan started his talk by discussing why the story of The Odyssey has captivated people for over three thousand years. He emphasized its enduring power, stating, “It’s not just a story, it is the story.”
