Scary Werwulf Trailer Shows Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Monster Transformation

Director Robert Eggers is known for his dark and unsettling films, and his latest project, Werwulf, looks to be no different. A trailer for the film, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, was recently shown at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, giving viewers a frightening preview of this 13th-century horror story.

Werwulf called Robert Eggers’ ‘most terrifying motion picture’ after trailer

Robert Eggers, the director behind the popular film Nosferatu, is releasing a new movie called Werwulf on December 25th. A recently released trailer has generated a lot of excitement, with many viewers calling it his most intense and brutal film yet.

The short, black-and-white preview immediately creates a sense of fear. It shows disturbing images – ruined graves, foggy landscapes, and badly injured bodies – all filmed in the realistic and gritty style that director Eggers is known for. The trailer for The Werwulf builds suspense by mostly hiding the creature, choosing to emphasize the terrifying physical changes happening as it transforms.

The trailer shows Aaron Taylor-Johnson naked and violently shaking as he transforms into something monstrous. The camera focuses on his face as his mouth fills with fangs and saliva, but intentionally doesn’t show the creature’s complete look.

As a huge fan of Robert Eggers, I was thrilled to see him bringing back so many familiar faces for his new werewolf film, Werwulf. It’s like a reunion with actors like Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, and Ralph Ineson – all of whom were fantastic in Nosferatu. I especially think Lily-Rose Depp is really coming into her own as a modern scream queen; the trailers for Werwulf are full of these incredibly raw, haunting screams from her that just send chills down your spine, set against that classic, foggy English backdrop. It’s a great sign of things to come!

Jack Morris, Jan Bijvoet, Ritchi Edwards, and Bodhi Rae Breathnach join the cast. The film, co-written with Sjón—who also worked with Eggers on The Northman—tells a story where local legends come to life and haunt a village.

Universal is shifting its focus to werewolf stories as it tries to revive its classic monster franchise. Recent vampire films, like ‘Abigail’ and ‘Renfield’, weren’t successful at the box office. However, director Robert Eggers’ involvement is generating much more excitement (according to Variety).

So if the Werwulf trailer is any indication, Christmas Day 2026 is going to be anything but silent.
