Netflix has revealed more about a gritty new TV remake of an iconic Denzel Washington thriller.
A new trailer has been released for the upcoming action thriller, Man on Fire. Based on the 1980 novel by A.J. Quinnell, this TV remake stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as John Creasy, a former Special Forces mercenary whose fresh start is derailed when he seeks revenge for a wrong done to someone he cares about.
Netflix has just released a trailer for its new version of Man on Fire, giving viewers a first look at the story. The trailer shows John struggling with trauma from his past as a soldier for hire, and a friend trying to convince him to return to that life. He initially wants to leave that world behind, but everything changes when a young woman becomes the target of dangerous criminals.
John finds himself caught up in a dangerous situation, and the trailer is packed with thrilling action. We see him performing incredible stunts, like leaping from a car onto a plane and creating huge explosions as he battles numerous mercenaries. The trailer makes it clear he’s determined to eliminate every enemy on this mission.

The most popular version of Man on Fire is the 2004 film starring Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning. Despite receiving a 39% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the author of the original book, Quinnell, was a fan of the movie. It received nominations for several awards, including two NAACP awards.
This will be the first time the story has been adapted for television by Netflix. Kyle Killen, known for his work on the Halo series for Paramount+, is the showrunner, writer, and executive producer of the seven-episode show. Steven Caple Jr., Vicente Amorim, and Clare Kilner each directed two episodes, and Michael Cuesta directed the final episode.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II stars as John Creasy, and he’s joined by Billie Boullet, Bobby Cannavale, Alice Braga, Scoot McNairy, and Paul Ben-Victor. The new movie’s story will draw from both the original Man on Fire novel and the first sequel, The Perfect Kill, by the same author.
This new series adds to Netflix’s expanding collection of action shows, including hits like The Night Agent and Lupin. But Man on Fire seems to be doing something different, combining intense action and explosive fights with meaningful character development for its main characters.
Since the show is now based on two books instead of just one, we can expect some unexpected twists when it’s released. It’s unclear exactly how the storylines will connect, but the Netflix adaptation seems likely to differ significantly from the original story by Washington.
As the release of Man on Fire nears at the end of the month, we can expect to learn more about the show soon. The trailer highlights thrilling action sequences and intriguing glimpses into the character of John Creasy, promising an exciting series when it finally premieres.
Man on Fire releases all episodes on Netflix on April 30, 2026.
