Jon Favreau Confirms ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’s Surprising Runtime [Exclusive]

Okay, so after a seven-year wait, Disney and Lucasfilm are finally bringing us a new Star Wars movie this May: The Mandalorian and Grogu. As a longtime fan, I’m really excited about this! It’s a direct continuation of the story we’ve been following on Disney+ with Din Djarin and Grogu, sending them off on a brand new adventure across the galaxy. What’s particularly interesting is that, like Rogue One and Solo, this isn’t part of the main Skywalker saga – it’s a standalone story, and I’m curious to see how it expands the Star Wars universe while still feeling like its own thing. The cast looks great too, with Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White joining the fun!

With the release of The Mandalorian and Grogu approaching, fans are curious about the movie’s length. The Disney+ series spanned almost 17 hours over three seasons, so how much of Din Djarin and Grogu’s story will make it to the big screen is a key question. Recent comments from the director are now offering some insight into the film’s runtime.

While visiting the set of the new Mandalorian and Grogu movie, MovieWeb learned from director Jon Favreau that the film will be around two hours long, not including credits. With credits, it will be just a few minutes over two hours.

Okay, so the movie clocks in right around two hours, but factor in the end credits and it pushes just a little past that – we’re talking a few extra minutes, honestly. It’s not a huge time commitment, but be prepared to sit for just over two hours.

The upcoming film, The Mandalorian and Grogu, will be the shortest live-action Star Wars movie in over four decades. Recent Star Wars films, including those in the Skywalker Saga and spin-offs, have all been at least 2 hours and 12 minutes long – with Episode VII: The Last Jedi (2017) being the longest at 2 hours and 32 minutes. Although The Mandalorian and Grogu has a lot of story to tell, its runtime of just over two hours should be sufficient to cover everything for these two main characters.

In addition to Pedro Pascal, Steve Blum will return as Garazeb “Zeb” Orellios, a character from both The Mandalorian Season 3 and the Star Wars Rebels animated series. Other characters from those shows might also appear in the film. Sigourney Weaver is joining the cast as Colonel Ward, a new character from the New Republic, and Jeremy Allen White will play Rota the Hutt, a character previously shown battling in gladiator fights in the film’s trailers.

The Mandalorian and Grogu will debut in theaters on May 22, 2026.
