Dragon Ball Teases The Return of Super Saiyan 4

The new anime series, Dragon Ball Daima, surprised many fans with unexpected twists and transformations. Notably, it officially included elements—like Vegeta’s version of Super Saiyan 3 and the long-awaited Super Saiyan 4—that fans previously thought would never be part of the official Dragon Ball story. Taking place between Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super, the series has now made the powerful, ape-like Super Saiyan 4 form canon. Bandai Namco has hinted that Goku’s version of this transformation may return, leaving fans eager to see what’s next.

Since its launch in 2018, Dragon Ball FighterZ has consistently added new characters and made changes to its existing lineup. The game previously let players use the Super Saiyan 4 form, and introduced Gogeta, a popular character from the Dragon Ball GT series. Now, Bandai Namco is hinting at the arrival of Super Saiyan 4 Goku from the upcoming Dragon Ball Daima, demonstrating the significant influence the spin-off series has had on the Dragon Ball franchise. You can see a preview from Bandai Namco below.

The History of Super Saiyan 4

The Super Saiyan 4 transformation debuted in the 1997 series Dragon Ball GT, where Goku first achieved it during a battle with the villain Baby. After regaining his tail, Goku was able to unlock this powerful new form and used it frequently for the rest of the series. Vegeta later learned to transform as well, and the two even fused to become Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta. After Dragon Ball GT ended, Super Saiyan 4 primarily appeared in video games and non-canon content like Dragon Ball Heroes. However, that changed with the recent release of Dragon Ball Daima.

In 2025, a redesigned Super Saiyan 4, created by Akira Toriyama, debuted in the episode “Awakening.” Through a Namekian from the Demon Realm named Neva, Goku not only recovers from his battle with Majin Duu, but also gains the ability to transform. Though some fans believed Neva was responsible for the new form, the finale of Daima revealed that Goku actually unlocked it during off-screen training. Now that we’ve seen this transformation in the Dragon Ball Super prequel, fans are eager to see if Goku will use it again in the main series.

The Dragon Ball anime franchise has exciting things coming up, including new episodes of Dragon Ball Super: Beerus and Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol. However, the future of the Dragon Ball Super manga is still uncertain. Although artist Toyotaro has suggested the manga will continue after the sad loss of Akira Toriyama, no official plans have been announced. If the manga does return, many fans are eager to see if Goku will use the powerful Super Saiyan 4 transformation.
