Catherine O’Hara will always be top tier in Bryan Cranston‘s eyes.
It’s still so hard to believe Annie’s gone. Just thinking about her makes me miss her so much! I was remembering some of the times I got to work with her over the years, and it really hit me how much she taught me. It’s only been a few months since January, and I’m still processing everything. She was just… incredible.
Bryan Cranston shared in a TikTok video with Esquire on April 16th that he deeply misses Catherine. He explained that he learned from her, over many years, how to fully commit to comedic performance and then relax and be herself when not working. She wasn’t someone who felt the need to be ‘on’ and funny all the time, even off camera.
The Emmy-winning actress, who worked with O’Hara on shows like 30 Rock and The Studio, described her as someone who carefully timed her performances. She’d build anticipation, and then deliver her lines with energy and precision.
Plus, the actor from Beetlejuice wasn’t afraid to improvise or experiment with unusual ideas if it meant getting a laugh.
Cranston explained that she was always proactive and engaged, frequently approaching him with ideas and suggestions, often asking, ‘What if we tried this?’
Throughout his Emmy-winning career, the 70-year-old O’Hara consistently demonstrated a remarkable ability to deeply connect with and develop his characters, a talent he’d repeatedly showcase.
The experience inspired me to pay it forward and help others, too,” the Breaking Bad actor shared. “She’d always suggest new ideas – ‘Let’s try this,’ or ‘What about that?’ – and she was incredibly talented, but even more importantly, a wonderful person.

It was a true joy to work with Catherine O’Hara for so many years – her talent was incredible. After spending over fifty years working with my dad, Catherine felt like family long before she ever played one on screen. It’s hard to imagine life without her. I’ll always treasure the funny moments we shared, and my thoughts are with Bo, Matthew, Luke, and her entire wonderful family.

This goes way back, even before the first Beetlejuice movie. She’s been like a wife in my imagination, a playful rival, and a genuinely wonderful friend in real life. I’m really heartbroken. I’m going to miss her terribly, and I’m also thinking of Beau.

Mom, I didn’t realize time was so short. I wished I could have spent more time with you, just sitting beside you and talking. I had so much left to tell you, even though I said I loved you. I’ll see you again someday.

I’m truly at a loss for words. From the moment I met O’Hara, I thought she was the funniest person I’d ever seen. Home Alone inspired me to become a filmmaker, so working with her was a real honor. She was hilarious, incredibly kind, insightful, and generous. She pushed me to make our show worthy of her talent. This is a devastating loss, and we were all so fortunate to have her in our lives.

“Catherine, I love you… You were a special part of my life and after life.”

I’m absolutely devastated by the loss of Catherine O’Hara. She was a truly unique and brilliant talent, and her death feels incredibly heavy – it’s hard to express just how much she’ll be missed.
She was more than just a famous artist, actor, and comedian. She truly represented the best of Canada – she was incredibly talented, brave, uniquely herself, and deeply compassionate. She didn’t just make people laugh; she helped them feel understood.
As an artist, she was a huge inspiration to me. She showed me what it means to represent your country with both skill and kindness, always remaining down-to-earth and genuine.
I’m deeply saddened for her family, friends, and all who loved her, here in Canada and globally.
It’s okay to feel sad right now, and please know that you’re not the only one who is hurting. We’re all sharing in this loss. Rest peacefully, Catherine, and thank you for all you did.

I’m so thankful I had the chance to tell her how much she meant to me – how she inspired me, influenced my sense of humor, and helped me understand our work. I always thought of her as the absolute best. I’m sure many actors told her similar things, but she never seemed tired of hearing it. She listened with grace, humor, and incredible kindness. I want to thank Jason Reitman for letting me participate in the Film Independent LACMA reading, where I got to work with my hero and see her brilliance firsthand. It was amazing to watch her work and just be around her – I’ll cherish those moments forever. Both that day and during a shoot for Away We Go, she was incredibly kind to everyone, from the director to the assistants. She truly lit up a room – she was radiant, almost otherworldly. Her talent was unique; there’s never been anyone like her, and there never will be. She was a genius and a beautiful person.

Catherine was an extraordinary person – kind, honest, intelligent, and had a wonderful sense of humor. She was strikingly beautiful, full of life, and deeply cared about people, which shone through in everything she did. Her wisdom, clarity, and strong character made her truly special. It feels like all those who inspired her are now eager to learn from her. We’re heartbroken here, and she’ll be deeply missed, especially now. Rest peacefully, dear friend.

Catherine O’Hara was a truly genuine and honest person, both in her work and in her personal life. She brought that authenticity to everything she did and to everyone who knew her, especially her sons, Bo, Luke, and Matthew. Our hearts go out to them during this difficult time. May Catherine rest peacefully, and may her memory live on forever.

“Catherine O’Hara. The absolute greatest. Only 71. An angel. The funniest. This is shocking.”

Being near you was a gift, and I’m endlessly thankful. The world feels a little dimmer now that you’re gone, but this fortunate world will always remember you. Forever and always, you were one of a kind. #CatherineOHara

I honestly never imagined I’d have the chance to work with Catherine O’Hara, and I definitely never expected to become friends with her. I’m heartbroken that she’s gone, but so thankful for the time we shared. Thank you, Catherine. I’ll always love you.

“Oh Catherine. You will be so so missed.”

“She was an all-timer. Her memory and work is a blessing. Rest peacefully.”

I’m still in shock and can’t accept that she’s gone. It’s incredibly painful to think about the loss of someone so vibrant and full of life, especially when she had so much more to offer. Saying goodbye feels impossible. She brought so much joy and laughter into our lives, and now we’re all grieving knowing those moments are over. Rest in peace. My heart goes out to her family during this difficult time.

I absolutely adored Catherine O’Hara – she was a comedic genius! It feels like everyone did, honestly, and I’m sending all my love to her fans like myself.

This news is devastating. She was a truly wonderful person, a gifted artist, and a joy to work with. I feel so fortunate to have directed, produced, and acted alongside her – she just kept getting better and better. My deepest sympathies go to Bo and her family.

“Absolutely heartbreaking. She was the kindest person in our business.”

Francesca was speechless after seeing her dad’s reaction on FaceTime, sharing a photo and saying she was completely heartbroken and in shock.

It’s a devastating loss. She was incredibly talented, graceful, and genuinely humble – a natural performer who brought so much happiness to everyone. She’ll be profoundly missed, and she inspired anyone who admired comedy. Every time she performed, it was a masterclass in the art form.

Catherine O’Hara, a cherished Canadian comedian and actress known for her roles in everything from SCTV and Home Alone to the iconic Moira Rose on Schitt’s Creek, brought laughter and warmth to audiences of all ages. She uniquely showcased Canadian talent on the global stage. Our hearts go out to her family, friends, and all who loved her work.

“BEST OF THE BEST IN SHOW!”

“Legend.”

“Ugggg legend. No one funnier.”

“Nooo my most profound condolences.”

She was truly inspiring. Her comedy brought joy to everyone who saw it, and she had a wonderful, radiant spirit. May she rest in peace.
