Taskmaster favourite Alex Horne linked to new entertainment series in development – and it sounds familiar

Channel 4 is looking for people to take part in a new show where the challenges are created by Alex Horne.

Applications are now being accepted for a new series where UK families will team up to tackle entertaining, imaginative, and puzzling challenges created by a popular figure from the show Taskmaster.

According to the production company, Avalon, each challenge in the series is meant to test contestants’ creativity, problem-solving skills, quick thinking, general knowledge, and ability to work as a team.

The main goal is to remain competitive and continue playing, with the chance to win a cash prize by outperforming the other families.

TopMob understands the series has yet to receive a full commission but is currently in development.

Viewers of television might recognize the premise, as it’s similar to “The Button,” a game show hosted by Horne and produced by Avalon that originally aired on BBC One in 2018.

The show featured families receiving a large, talking button – voiced by comedian Alex Horne – in their homes. When the button lit up, they had to quickly complete a challenge before other families across the country did.

When an episode finished, the family that earned the most had a choice: they could take the money and be eliminated from the show, or try to win more in the next episode, but with the risk of losing everything they’d already won.

We haven’t received official word on whether the series currently in development is ‘The Button’ or a new take on it. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

Fans can look forward to more Taskmaster! Channel 4 has just announced the show will return for six more seasons, meaning plenty more appearances from Alex Horne.

Horne expressed both excitement and pressure about needing to create more work for more comedians. However, he also said the idea of continuing to work with Greg for another three years is comforting.

Davies also expressed his pleasure that the comedic content creation process is continuing. He anticipates enthusiastically maintaining that flow, with assistance from a quiet, unassuming individual under his control.

The newest season of Taskmaster is happening now, and the contestants – Amy Gledhill, Armando Iannucci, Joanna Page, Joel Dommett, and Kumail Nanjiani – are all trying to win Greg Davies’ golden head trophy.

Although both Iannucci and Nanjiani have been nominated for Academy Awards, the show is planning to include an actual Oscar winner in a future cast, as Horne previously shared with TopMob.

He hinted at a possible change to the show’s format in the future, mentioning that people have suggested a ‘Champion of Champions’ competition.

We’re planning a new and interesting series soon. It will involve some minor changes, but I can’t share any details just yet. We have something exciting in the works!

You can watch Taskmaster on Channel 4 every Thursday at 9pm, and right after the show airs, new videos will be available on the official Taskmaster YouTube channel worldwide.
