PlayStation Will Require Age Verification For Online Voice Chat and Messages

After a rollercoaster of a ten days for Sony, there’s some positive news: PlayStation will soon require age verification before users can access online chat and communication features.

If you use PlayStation Network, you’ll still be able to play games, enjoy the PlayStation Plus library and store, earn Trophies, and play by yourself. However, to use voice chat or message friends, you’ll need to verify your age first. Sony recently announced this change, explaining they want to create a safe and private experience for players and families, according to a report from Insider Gaming.

We don’t have a specific date for when this new requirement will begin, but it will be implemented everywhere. We’ll let you know as soon as it’s officially launched globally.

PlayStation has had a packed month, but things have taken a more serious turn since the successful launch of The Playerbase. We haven’t received an update on the next State of Play since April 16th. However, Insomniac Games plans to share more information about Marvel’s Wolverine this spring, so another update might not arrive until June.
