Acclaimed Sports Anime Gets Major Streaming Update Ahead of Sequel Film

The Spring 2026 anime season is finally here, and it’s packed with fantastic shows and movies. You can already start watching the biggest titles on major streaming platforms, with Crunchyroll leading the way as usual with a large selection. While Crunchyroll streams most new anime, Hulu also offers its own unique lineup of releases each month. These aren’t always brand new series, but they’re all worth checking out. One popular and highly-rated anime, Medalist, just finished its second season in March. A sequel movie has been announced, though details are still to come.

Hulu recently announced its May 2026 streaming schedule, listing both new additions and removals. Although no new anime series are being added or taken off the platform this month, fans can look forward to the English dubbed version of Medalist Season 2, which will begin streaming on May 4th. All episodes with English dubbing will be available at once, as the original Japanese broadcast finished over a month ago.

What Is Medalist About?

This touching anime is adapted from the popular manga by Tsurumaikada. It centers around Tsukasa Akeuraji, who once hoped to become a renowned figure skater. However, starting his career a bit later in life, he’s struggling to succeed. Unable to achieve his athletic dreams, he now works as a coach’s assistant to earn a living.

He’s incredibly impressed by Inori Yuitsuka, a shy but exceptionally talented fifth-grade figure skater. Seeing how much potential she has, he commits to coaching her to the best of his ability, hoping to build her confidence along the way. Together, they work towards a shared dream: for Inori to compete in the Olympics and win a medal.

When Does The Medalist Movie Come Out?

I’m really excited for the new anime movie! It’s scheduled to come out in Japan in 2027, though they haven’t announced the specific date yet. As for the rest of the world, we haven’t heard anything about when it might be released internationally. From what I understand, the movie will continue the story immediately after the first season of the anime ends, and it seems like it’ll stick closely to the original manga. The first season only had nine episodes and ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, which is clearly setting things up for what happens in the movie, giving the story more room to grow.

It won’t be easy for Inori to win a medal, but she’s determined to keep pushing forward despite any obstacles. You can currently watch the first season of the anime on Hulu with subtitles or English dubbing, and the dubbed episodes for the second season will be available in just a few days.
