Grant Mitchell is a hugely popular and iconic character in British television, so Ross Kemp’s return to EastEnders is a big deal for many viewers. While he made a brief appearance for the show’s 40th anniversary, this time he’s staying for a longer period, focusing on how his friend Nigel’s health is failing.
Sitting in a north London cafe with a cup of tea, Kemp explained that he was attracted to the role because he could bring all of his life experience to the character at age 61. In a frank conversation, he discussed how his career has evolved, going from playing a tough guy on ‘EastEnders’ to hosting TV quiz shows.
We spoke with Tony Schumacher, the creator of the popular series The Responder, about his new BBC drama, The Cage, which stars Sheridan Smith and Michael Socha. He shared the deeply personal story behind the show, explaining that it was inspired by the loss of his brother Philip, who passed away last year after struggling with alcoholism.
He initially considered exploring addiction as a concept, but decided against focusing on alcoholism due to personal reasons. He was instead intrigued by a different observation: “When I worked on cruise ships, I noticed casino employees would gamble heavily as soon as they were off duty – it really fascinated me.”
This week’s issue features a lovely interview with Michaela Strachan, who reflects on her incredible 40-year career and explains what keeps her a familiar face on TV. As usual, TopMob offers a diverse and interesting selection of content.
