Ball X Pit unexpectedly became a huge success for Devolver Digital last year. Because of this, the developers have been consistently adding new content to keep players engaged.
The game launched in October 2025 and has received the first of three planned updates. The second update is coming very soon.
The new Shadow update is launching on April 27, 2026. Here’s a trailer showing you what to expect:
The game is adding two new characters! The Tunneler fires shots that wrap around the screen – if a ball goes off the top, it comes back in from the bottom, and vice versa. The Tiptoer, on the other hand, can sneak past enemies undetected, letting her get right up close.
There’s also a new building, the Guild Hall, which allows you to reroll upgrades in your village.
Honestly, what I’m most excited about is finding all the new stuff – like new balls, helpful items that just work automatically, and how things can evolve into even cooler versions of themselves. It’s going to be a blast discovering it all!
Ball X Pit blends the gameplay of Breakout and Vampire Survivors. You shoot balls – both standard and special – to destroy incoming waves of enemies. As you defeat them, you collect experience points to improve your character, unlock new balls, or gain helpful passive abilities.
By combining different balls or abilities, you can upgrade them to become even stronger. The fast-paced action and engaging gameplay create a really satisfying and addictive experience.
But that’s not all – between each attempt, you gradually develop a settlement that unlocks lasting improvements and progression. It’s a really clever system.
