Bloody Flicks calls this film a small but brilliant science fiction achievement, praising its cleverness, consistent entertainment value, and incredible creativity.
Nerdly calls this movie a thrilling and captivating mix of documentary style, found footage horror, and adventure. They praise it as both exciting and mysterious, ultimately calling it a brilliant horror film.
Okay, let me tell you about Tribe. This movie, the feature debut from Dan Asma – you might recognize his work as the cinematographer on Fall – really got under my skin. It’s a deeply unsettling blend of psychological horror, creepy cult dynamics, and some genuinely disturbing body horror. I’ve been hearing buzz about it from the festival circuit, and now it’s finally coming to UK digital platforms on May 25th, thanks to GrimmVision. Be warned: this one’s not for the faint of heart!
On November 12, 2024, Devin Adams, a retired university lecturer known as Asma, begins documenting the bizarre symptoms of a new illness. He’s experiencing loss of movement, memory loss, and a disturbing facial disfigurement. As his condition worsens and he descends into madness, he uncovers old videotapes that might help him understand his fragmented memories.
The recordings bring us back to August 2024, where Devin begins investigating the puzzling death of his friend Charlie (Keaton Asma). Charlie had been involved with the Church of Heaven’s Light and died by suicide shortly after a trip to the Cuyamaca Mountains.
Driven to learn more about the cult and the events surrounding Charlie’s death, Devin travels to the remote mountains where it all happened, hoping to find answers. What begins as a quest for truth quickly spirals into a terrifying experience, filled with disturbing secrets, monstrous beings, and unimaginable cosmic terrors, all captured as if by a lost camera.
Find your Tribe in this mind-altering found footage hellscape.
