Koei Tecmo has updated its financial forecasts for the year ending March 2026. This change is due to the surprising success of Pokémon Pokopia, a game Koei Tecmo assisted with development. Reuters reports the game exceeded sales expectations, and overall, the company has performed significantly better than previously predicted, thanks to effective financial management.
Koei Tecmo now expects a net profit of ¥41.5 billion (about $260 million) for the year, a significant increase from their earlier forecast of ¥27 billion (around $169 million). This puts them on track for record profits, exceeding the ¥37.6 billion they reported last year.
The new Pokémon game, Pokémon Pokopia, came out on Nintendo Switch 2 last month and has quickly become a hit. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company announced that it sold over 2.2 million copies in just four days, with about 1 million of those sales happening in Japan.
A recent report showed that the release of Pokémon Pokopia boosted Nintendo Switch 2 sales in the UK. Hardware sales jumped by 154% compared to February.
Following the launch of Pokémon Pokopia, sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 in the UK increased by 154% in March, according to Christopher Dring of The Game Business. So far this year, Nintendo consoles have made up over half of all console sales in the UK.
The launch of Pokémon Pokopia appears to have quickly boosted Nintendo’s stock price, increasing it by 10% in just a few days. According to Jeffries analyst Atul Goyal, the game is a “viral hit” and is helping to offset some financial concerns that had been troubling investors.
Pokémon Pokopia puts you in the role of a unique Ditto – one that’s transformed into a human child. Set in a world without people, you’ll build a new life and make friends with other Pokémon. The game has been getting a lot of positive attention for its interesting idea, delightful style, and satisfying building features.

We only had a couple of minor issues with the game: it can be a bit slow to get started, and the storage system is somewhat limited. If you’re already playing, we have guides to help you catch legendary Pokémon, improve the game’s environment, and even use time travel. Plus, other reviewers are calling it the best game on Nintendo’s console so far this year!
