Ever wished to see Batman battle Thor? DC Comics is bringing a beloved, older story back to life to satisfy that desire! It’s a great time to be a fan of either Marvel or DC, as the two comic giants are working together again after many years. They began collaborating last year with a Batman/Deadpool team-up, and continued this year with a crossover featuring Superman and Spider-Man. These collaborations have been hugely popular with fans, and now DC is bringing back the original meeting between Batman and a famous character from the world of Norse mythology.
DC Comics has announced its July releases, and along with brand new books like the special Action Comics #1100, they’re bringing back some classic stories. They’re reprinting older issues as exact copies, and one of them is Batman #127. This issue features three stories, including a fun tale called “The Hammer of Thor,” where Batman and Robin meet a strange man who insists he is the Norse God Thor.
DC Comics Reprints A Golden Age Batman/Thor Story

Be warned, this story contains spoilers! The character presented as Thor isn’t the real Thor, but a museum worker who becomes convinced he is Thor after a magical meteorite affects a copy of his hammer, Mjolnir (which is from the Silver Age of comics). So, this isn’t a true Batman/Thor team-up. You might wonder, “Why reprint this story?” That’s a fair question, particularly when other reprinted issues this month feature more famous comics, like Showcase #4, which introduces the Flash.
This isn’t an official team-up between Marvel and DC, but it definitely feels like the kind of crossover fans are enjoying right now. Both companies are clearly focused on delivering these collaborative stories, and they’re proving popular. Though Marvel’s Thor didn’t exist when this particular Batman issue was originally released, a story like this would likely resonate more with audiences today, given the recent collaborations between the two publishers. These older issues are selling well, and it’s likely many fans will want to get their hands on a copy of this classic Batman story.
Unfortunately, fans hoping to see Batman and Thor team up will have to be patient. However, if you’re interested in a nostalgic story that imagines a battle between them, Batman #127 delivers. If this issue is popular, Marvel and DC might consider a real crossover in the future. For now, you can enjoy this reimagined encounter between the two heroes later this year.
