Adult Swim has been a significant presence on television and a long-standing part of the Atlanta, Georgia community. For many years, the network’s operations have been based on Williams Street, and the area reflects its connection to Cartoon Network with various landmarks. One statue, built in 2021, is now showing wear and tear and could use some attention. Although the character it depicts may no longer be featured in new episodes, they played a key role in making Adult Swim so popular.
A statue of Early Cuyler, the foul-mouthed, shotgun-toting squid from the Adult Swim show Squidbillies, was put up in Ellijay, Georgia (population around 2,000) in 2021. Unfortunately, the statue is in rough shape. Muelworx, the company that helped create the original, recently visited and reported it’s “fallen on some pretty bad times,” covered in graffiti and possibly even hit by a car. While repairs are being considered, it might be too damaged to fully restore. You can see a video of its current condition on TikTok.

A lot of people reached out after I shared a video of this #squidbillies statue being damaged and asked me to repair it. So, I took a trip to Ellijay, Georgia to check it out. #fyp #maker #adultswim

The Squidbilly Problem

Want to know more about the statue? Here’s what the team behind it says: In late 2021, Adult Swim commissioned Russ Vick, Chris Brown, and their team to create a 15-foot statue of Early Cuyler, the star of “Squidbillies,” to celebrate the show’s final season. They handled everything – from the design and engineering to the carving, coating, painting, and installation. If you’re ever in Elijay, Georgia, they encourage you to stop by and see it!
If you haven’t seen Squidbillies, it was a Cartoon Network show that ran for thirteen seasons, starting in 2005. A total of 132 episodes were made before it ended in 2021 – the same year a statue of the characters was created. There haven’t been any hints of a revival since then, but with so many animated shows being brought back lately, a return isn’t impossible for this often-crude cartoon.
If you missed ‘Squidbillies’ and want to watch it, you can find episodes on the Adult Swim website. The show was recently removed from HBO Max, along with other Adult Swim programs. It’s currently unclear if it will return to television, but fans are hoping this long-running series will continue to be available somehow.
The Squidbillies statue might be taken down soon. What are your thoughts? Share your opinion and discuss it with other fans in the ComicBook Forum!
