The Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood offers a fascinating look at the history of the iconic film studio. In recent years, the tour has become increasingly interactive, hosting special events dedicated to popular shows like Friends and Gilmore Girls, as well as the world of DC Comics. The newest addition, The Superman Experience, is a huge celebration of the classic superhero.
The new Superman Experience at Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood lets visitors step into the role of a superhero, using motion-capture technology to help Superman save the world. After the interactive experience, guests can explore a detailed Fortress of Solitude filled with hidden references and enjoy a themed cafe. In an interview with egmr.ru, Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood’s General Manager, Danny Kahn, explained that the experience adds a new level of immersion to the studio tour, celebrates both the legacy and future of DC, and is designed to evolve with upcoming films.

I’m curious, when you create a large-scale project like The Superman Experience, how do you balance appealing to dedicated fans with attracting a wider audience?
Danny Kahn feels that everything at the attraction – the overall experience, the lounge, the store, and the Fortress – works together seamlessly, creating a great atmosphere. He particularly highlights the unique, visually appealing drinks at the bar. Whether you’re a new visitor or a dedicated fan, he believes there’s something for everyone throughout the entire experience. The tour itself is designed to appeal to a wide range of interests, from casual viewers of the shows to serious movie buffs who want an in-depth exploration – and it’s enjoyable for all.
Being on a movie set is always a great experience! It’s fascinating to explore all the details, history, and stories behind the scenes. We approached ‘The Superman Experience’ the same way, aiming to create something both dedicated fans and newcomers would appreciate. It’s an enjoyable game set in a really cool and immersive world.
How does Warner Bros. Studio Tour plan to add The Superman Experience to its current offerings?
Danny Kahn explains that the tour begins with a general overview of Warner Bros., focusing on the history and discovery behind the studio. It then moves into a more focused experience led by the tour guide, including a visit to Stage 40 to explore the filmmaking process. The tour culminates in immersive experiences, like stepping into the Bat-Cave or scenes from Harry Potter. Kahn believes The Superman Experience takes this immersion even further. Through five interactive game pods, guests are truly inside the stories, feeling like they’re in the Fortress of Solitude, complete with minigames, hidden details, and even themed menus in the lounge.
The goal is to create a truly immersive experience, letting people really feel like they’re part of the DC Universe. The filmmakers have done a deep dive into the source material, which fans are really appreciating. I’m especially excited that this is our first attraction of its kind, and that it’s set within James Gunn’s vision for DC. He’s a fantastic director, and his partnership with Peter Safran is a winning combination. This franchise has so much potential and longevity, giving us the chance to constantly evolve the attraction with new details and references as James Gunn continues to develop the story. I’m eager to see what he and the DC team come up with next, and we’re already brainstorming how to incorporate those new elements into the experience.
CB: Are there any plans to update and tweak the expeirence to reflect other upcoming titles?
Danny Kahn believes they can easily refresh their seasonal content with updates and overlays because they won’t need to build new sets – they can simply push out new content. He’s excited about the possibilities and is particularly eager to find ways to feature characters like Peacemaker, joking about how they could get a cameo.
As the game continues to develop, I’m excited to incorporate real-life moments into it. For example, Supergirl wasn’t originally planned for The Superman Experience; we added her later on. We’re planning to do more of that – adding new characters and giving players a reason to keep coming back, whether it’s to improve their score or see what’s new.
I’m curious about how ‘The Superman Experience’ came to be. Did the Warner Bros. Studio Tour reach out to DC Comics with the idea, or did DC approach them first?
Danny Kahn explained that they aimed to create an immersive experience. With some downtime in Warner Bros.’ production schedule, they realized they could repurpose the sound stages for something special – a celebration of DC Comics, rather than letting the space be developed for something else. The upcoming Superman film played a key role in their decision, and they’d been developing the idea for two years, excited about the direction Peter and James were taking with DC. This excitement about Superman was the driving force behind the project. They envisioned an attraction that could begin on the studio lot and then expand to other locations, so a significant part of their investment went into creating compelling content.
We can boost profits and grow our business by expanding into new areas, and that was a key goal with this attraction. We want to be able to develop and launch similar experiences easily. It’s great that we can offer both a look at our history – like the classic studio stages – and a preview of what we’re currently working on. That reflects our company’s values. I’m excited to share this with the public and test it out right here on the lot. Having all our creative talent – the filmmakers and storytellers – here in Burbank makes it ideal for developing projects like this.

Creative projects are demanding for everyone involved, and it’s common for things to change as they’re being made – the final result is rarely exactly what people initially imagined. What was the biggest surprise for you as ‘The Superman Experience’ went from its first ideas to the finished product?
Danny Kahn described the experience as incredibly immersive and emotionally engaging, saying it unexpectedly touched his heart. He realized the physical activity at the beginning released endorphins, adding to the feeling. He compared it to a roller coaster, but with the added freedom of movement. He particularly enjoyed the balance between the scavenger hunt in the Fortress and relaxing with a drink in the Lounge. Ultimately, he was most surprised by the sheer level of immersion – and that they completed it on time.
You’re absolutely right – teamwork is essential for a project like this. It really takes everyone working together and trusting each other. We had moments of doubt, especially recently, wondering if we’d actually finish on time. But that’s just how these things go. It’s amazing to see how much progress is made each day when everyone has faith in each other and contributes their part.
The Superman Experience is currently open for visitors to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour.
